SEWER INTERCEPTORS
WHEREAS the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission has held a scheduled
public hearing on November loth on the Orono -Long Lake and Medina
interceptor sewer lines; and
WHEREAS Medina is experiencing a serious pollution problem in the Medina-
Morningside area of the city, which would be served by these inter-
ceptors; and.
WHEREAS service to this area has been requested by the city for several
,years through its comprehensive sewer plan; and
WHEREAS service will continue to remain an urgent priority in the
city's over-all comprehensive plan, which is awaiting approval by the
Metropolitan Council after the city receives the necessary systems
statements; and
WHEREAS there are no reasonable alternatives to meet this serious
need, since an independent treatment plan is generally considered
to be unfeasible and there is no capacity in sewer lines in the Orono

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Medina City Council urges the
earliest possible construction of the Orono -Long Lake and Medina
interceptors to relieve this urgent problem; and

Waste Control Commission, with input from all the other parties
involved, to meet its stautory charge to conduct the planning, siting,
financing, and construction responsibilities of this interceptor up
to the Medina -Orono line; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council recommends that the route
to reach that line must be acceptable to the City of Orono; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council at this time takes no
position on the issue of sewer service to the proposed location of
the West Area Vocational Technical School since that issue is still
before the Medina Planning Commission and is not yet before the City
Council; and

and Orono, to Metropolitan Council members Charles Weaver and Kingsley
