RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TF1F., CITY OF LYNWOOD OPPOSING
LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS TO REDUCE VEHICLE LICENSE FEE REVENUES 1'O
CITIES AND COUNTIES
I WHEREAS, Governor Pete Wilson and several State legislators are currently promoting
i. efforts to provide so-called tax relief by eliminating the State's vehicle license fee; and

WHEREAS, legislation such as Assembly Bill 1776 and Assembly Constitutional
Amendment (ACAS 45, (McCintock, R-Simi Valley ), Senate Bills 2001 and 1998 (Husrt,
R-Garden Grove) and Senate Bill 1723 (Haynes, R-Murietta) are counter-productive in
that they provide relief to automobile owners while at the same time taking away vital
revenue from cities .and counties in California; and
WHEREAS, VLF in the amount of $2.3 million represents 15% of the City of Lynwood's
general fund;'and
WHEREAS,. without VLF, Lynwood will not be able to provide a full level. of vital
services such as police and fire protection;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City ofLynwood as
follows; .
Section 1. The City of Lynwood is vehemently opposed to efforts by Governor Pete
Wilson and others to provide tax relief on the backs of cities and counties
Section 2. VLF represents 15% of Lynwood's general fund and without such revenue
vital service such a law enforcement, fire protection and recreational programming will
be seriously curtailed.
Sectiori 3. That this Resolution take effect immediately and that copies be provided to
the Governor and all of Lynwood's, State Legislators.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Lynwood City
Council held on May 19, 1998.
