RESOLUTION 2006-11
A Resolution to Support the Safe Routes to School Grant Application
For People Pathways Phase III — Part 2: The Connector Trail Project
WHEREAS, Trails and greenways provide natural, scenic, and recreational value to citizens;
and
WHEREAS; Trails and greenways are vital assets to our community, providing opportunities
for economic growth; and
WHEREAS; Trails and greenways provide good transportation routes, offering clean and
safer alternatives to motor transportation; and
WHEREAS; Trails and greenways are good for the public health of our citizens and students
of the Greencastle Community School Corporation, offering places close to home
for physical exercise, for mental relaxation, and for family recreation; and
WHEREAS; The People Pathways network of trails has received council support by adopting
the plan as part of the City of Greencastle's Comprehensive Plan, City Zoning
Ordinance; and Greencastle Parks & Recreation Department 5-Year Master
Plan; and
WHEREAS; That the creation of partnerships in providing Safe Routes to Schools for our
young pedestrian and bicycle enthusiasts has been recognized; and
NOW THEREFORE, The Greencastle Common Council supports the effort to create the
People Pathways Phase III — Part 2: The Connector Trail Project, which will
provide an urban trail connection linking four of Greencastle's five public
schools and seven of its neighborhoods to a centralized trail network, through the
application for an Indiana Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School
Program Grant and calls upon all good citizens, civic groups, and elected
officials to also join and support this effort.
PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle, this 13th Day of
June, 2006.
