HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-2007-5 (2) sci"'"-- RESOLUTION NO. 2007-5 A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE DEPAUW UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WHEREAS, the DePauw University Women's Basketball Team (the Tigers)has completed its 2006-2007 season with a record 31 victories and 3 defeats; and WHEREAS, the Tigers have been invited to the NCAA Division HI Tournament eight times in the past twelve years and have reached the Sweet Sixteen five times in the past ten years and the Final Four in 2002; and WHEREAS, the Tigers won the NCAA Division HI National Championship on March 17, 2007, defeating Washington University of St. Louis 55-52 in Springfield, Massa- chusetts, site of the College Basketball Hall of Fame; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE on this 106 day of April, 2007, congratulates the players and coaches for their outstanding season, continuing success, and stellar national championship: THE PLAYERS: Kristy Mahon, Suzy Doughty, Tina Frierson, Cassie Pruzin, Kalei Lowes, K.C. Stoll, Kelsey Flanagan, Caitlin McGonigal, Adedrea Chaney, Liz Bondi, Gretchen Haehl, Gwen Haehl, Kristin Barrow,Jenna Fernandez, Tegan Krouse, Bridget Bailey, Andrea Travelstead, Emily Marshall, Meghan Warner, Katie O'Connor, and Sarah Merkel; THE COACHES: Kris Huffman(head coach); Mary Smith, Tria Yoder, and Brian Kern(assistant coaches); In particular, we wish to congratulate COACH KRIS HUFFMAN who has been the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year five times, Division III Coach of the Year in 2002, and is the most successful coach in DePauw history with a remarkable .788 (304-82)winning percentage. Representing the residents of the City of Greencastle,the Greencastle Common Council offers its deepest and most sincere admiration and congratulations. PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle at its regular meeting this 10th day of April, 2007.
