RESOLUTION NO. 2007-13 A NNED
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE ONE HUNDRED YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF
THE GREENCASTLE BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS LODGE
#1077.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks#1077 was established July 27, 1907 by twenty-seven
Greencastle community leaders.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks#1077 has continually served the community for One
Hundred years.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks#1077 was established to instill and exemplify the principles
of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the
welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism;
to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization; to provide for its
government; and to serve the people and communities through benevolent programs. The
Greencastle Elks Lodge #1077 characterizes the national message of the Benevolent and
Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America: Elks Care and Elks Share.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks #1077 has provided sponsorship of local youth athletic
teams and has provided youth programs such as the Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest and
the Elks Soccer Shootouts.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks #1077 has promoted the Elks Drug Awareness Program
through educational presentations to the public.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks 1077 has supported academic achievement by providing
over twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) in local scholarships in the last ten years, including the
new Robert J. Berry Memorial Award.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks #1077 has recognized the service of American Veterans
through yearly Flag Day programs and various service projects.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks#1077 has contributed to many community causes involving
local Police, Fire and Park Departments.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks #1077 has contributed to assist the community's less
fortunate during the holidays.
WHEREAS, the B.P.O. Elks #1077 has contributed to the Indiana Elks Major Project,
which is to fight the various dreaded cancer diseases that strike hundreds of Indiana Hoosiers
each year, by financially supporting two major cancer research facilities located at Purdue
University and Indiana University.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE COMMON
ak COUNCIL hereby declare Friday, July 27, 2007 as Greencastle B.P.O. Elks 1077 day.
