RESOLUTION 2007-18
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GREENCASLT
IN SUPPORT OF AND TO GIFT LAND TO E
IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF INDIANA
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that development of an ivy Tech Community College
Indiana Campus in Putnam County will have significant opportunities to expand partnerships of
with local businesses and industries, area high schools, Area 30 Vocational Center&DePauw
University; and
WHEREAS, officials of Ivy Tech Community College have worked diligently to expand
programs,partnerships and student enrollments; and,
WHEREAS, Ivy Tech Community College offers a variety of dual credit opportunities for coup
students at substantial savings in tuition and fees; and, h'
4110 WHEREAS, growing the academic programs, continuing education programs, and corporate
training programs of the College will be of benefit to all Greencastle and Putnam County citizens
and businesses; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle is centrally located between the regional campuses of Ivy
Tech Community College in Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Bloomington and Lafayette; and,
WHEREAS, the Greencastle campus will provide many training and educational opportunities to
residents of Clay, Owen, Parke,Putnam and western Hendricks Counties; and,
WHEREAS, the Indiana General Assembly has approved$250,000 of planning funds and
bonding authority in the amount of$8 million to construct a new Ivy Tech Community College
Campus in Greencastle; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle owns 41 acres of land located at Rokicki Park along
Veterans Memorial Highway(SR 240) in Greencastle,Indiana;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GREENCASTLE,INDIANA THAT:
1.The City of Greencastle shall donate+/-30 acres of land for a new Ivy Tech Community
College Campus located at Rokicki Park. If Ivy Tech chooses not to proceed with the plans to
build a new campus on the site, the land shall be donated back to the City.
2.The City of Greencastle will proceed with the transfer of land to support the project upon final
acceptance of the property by the Ivy Tech Board of Trustees.
• 3. The Common Council encourages the Ivy Tech Board of Trustees to send a favorable
recommendation and a Request to Proceed to the Commission on Higher Education.
4. This resolution shall be effective as of its date of adoption.
PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle at a
special meeting this 17th day of July, 2007.
