RESOLUTION OPPOSING MIDDLESEX WATER COMPANY
RATE INCREASE
'VHEREAS, Middlesex Water Company is proposing to increase its rates for
water service for residential and business customers in accordance with its
petition filing with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities as required by law;

. 'VHEREAS, M.iddlesex Water Company's proposed rate increase.would un~uly
burden the r~sidents and businesses i~l the Borough of Carteret; and
'VHEREAS, many of the Borough's residents are,'elderly and can not reasonably
bear the added burgen of increased costs for basic life sustaining services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the
Bon;mgh of Cal.1:eret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, p.ereby
oppose the rate increase for resiqential andb~siness' customers proposed by .

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution he forwarded to

Dear Mrs. Barney:
This letter is in response to your resolution dated April 27, 2007 regarding the
Middlesex Water Company rate filing.
Please note that Board Staff is in the process of propounding discovery regarding
the company's request for an increase in its water service rates pursuant to the Board's
statutes and rules in this matter and any other information needed to evaluate and
detennine what relief, if any, the utility is to be afforded. This process is also being done
by the Division of Rate Counsel, a statutory intervener in this case. 5~;2,/ -1/7

Pursuant to statute, a rate case proceeding is a nine month process depending on L/t
the issues and components that are contained in the rate case proceeding. ~

Your correspondence has been made part ofthe record, and your objection is duly
noted. We urge you to attend an open public hearing that will occur, and be noticed for
in the local newspaper most circulated in your area. This public hearing is expected to
take place in the next 2-3 months and will be published 20 days prior to the public
hearing. The open public hearing is another way to get your comments and concerns
addressed before the presiding Administrative Law Judge.
At this time, it is premature to state to you precisely how this case will proceed
and what increase, if any, will be granted.
