Subject: Proposed Zoning Text Amendments for Design Guideline and Standards
Implementation
In accordance with the direction of the Honorable Town Council at the August 12, 2014.
meeting, staff has worked withthe design firm of Gamble and Associates to develop a set of
Design Guidelines and Standards for Watertown.
The process to create these documents has followed a very aggressive timeline which
included three public meetings and many meetings with staff and other interested parties.
It also involved work with a "demonstration project", working with the developer of the
Elan project. The results of these efforts are three documents, a design guideline booklet, a
poster which summarizes the design standards and their impact on an hypothetical
building, and finally a series of proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance which
constitute the Design Standards.
Therefore, I would respectfully request that the Design Standards Zoning Amendment be
placed on the Honorable Town Council agenda for a first reading and referral to the
Planning Board for public hearing.
