RESOLUTION 7 9- /ff
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Department of Environment
and Energy, in its Sanitary Landfill Site Selection
(Phase II) report of February, 1979, has determined
that a portion of Baker Park located in the City of
Medina is well suited for the location of a sanitary
landfill; and
WHEREAS, the Medina City Council (the "Council") has
from time to time, discussed the desirability of lo-
cating a sanitary landfill in areas of Medina used
for park purposes; and
WHEREAS, residents of Medina have expressed concern
to the Council concerning the use of a park for a
sanitary landfill;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council is opposed
to the location of a sanitary landfill in Baker Park
or in any other area in Medina presently designated
for park purposes.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council views Hennepin
County sanitary landfill matters to be regional in
nature and urges the Hennepin County Board of Comm-
issioners to consider sites which reflect the regional
nature of the problem.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the zoning code presently in
force in Medina does not permit the use of the property
designated by Hennepin County for the sanitary landfill
as a landfill.
FURTHER RESOLVED that Medina's experience with sanitary
landfills has indicated that the operation of a landfill
within a municipality creates additional pressure on the
local road systems, excess amounty of paper and trash
along the road sides and other problems for which no
compensation or cures have been previously designated.
