HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-2011-12 SCANNED RESOLUTION 2011-12 W 3 f( 1 A RESOLUTION OF CONCURRENCE WITH AN APPLICATION TO RECLASSIFY CERTAIN ROADS WITHIN THE CITY OF GREENCASTLE WHEREAS, the City of Greencastle, applied for and received a Stellar Community Grant with a key focus of the grant to make improvements to the downtown and the surrounding neighborhood. WHEREAS, said grant provides for: renovation of the downtown buildings to provide for increased retail and business development and housing; construction of a parking lot, improvements to owner/occupied homes; development of new health center, retail buildings, and housing; and,the reconstruction and improvements to the roads in the affected area. WHEREAS, the roads listed herein are integral streets and will act as significant corridors, leading people to the new development and linking the DePauw University campus with the downtown and rest of the community. WHEREAS, it is anticipated that all of the Stellar-related projects will significantly increase traffic through the area. IDWHEREAS, in order to be eligible for certain types of federal programs or federal-aid funds a roadway must be on the federal-aid system; NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle, that, after careful analysis, current and future traffic volumes, and based upon the proposed public improvements arising from the Stellar Community grant, which will increase traffic on the proposed streets, the Common Council supports the application to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to reclassify the following roads: 1. Locust Street Location: from Washington Street(U.S. 231)to Seminary Street Current Functional Classification: Local Street Proposed Functional Classification: Urban Collector Street Length: approximately 776 feet 2. Spring Street Location: from Washington Street(U.S. 231)to Seminary Street Current Functional Classification: Local Street Proposed Functional Classification: Urban Collector Street Length: approximately 761 feet 3. Vine Street Location: from Franklin Street to Seminary Street . Current Functional Classification: Local Street Proposed Functional Classification: Urban Collector Street Length: approximately 1,005 feet 4. Indiana Street Location: from Franklin Street to Seminary Street Current Functional Classification: Local Street Proposed Functional Classification: Urban Collector Street Length: approximately 1,016 feet 5. Anderson Street Location: from Bloomington Street(U.S. 231)to Locust Street Current Functional Classification: Local Street Proposed Functional Classification: Urban Collector Street Length: approximately 1,090 feet PASSED AND RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle at its regular meeting this Iz day off Aiti , 2011.
