A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE .CITY OF
LYNWOOD AUTHORIZING STAFF TO APPLY FOR THE
OFFICE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING GRANTS
AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO PREPARE
' AND EXECUTE AN MOU WITH THE LYNWOOD UNIFIED
SCHOOL DISTRICT.TO PROVIDE PROGRAM SERVICES
WHEREAS the State of California Office of Criminal Justice
Planning has made available approximately $5 million to fund. projects that
provide prevention and intervention services for at-risk-youth; and
WHEREAS City of Lynwood staff have met with. Lynwood Unified
School District staff to discuss program options to identify possible programs to
submit for funding; and
WHEREAS a program entitled DOVE or Developing .Opportunities
Via Education has .been developed jointly between the City and the School
District; and
.WHEREAS the program seeks to serve at-risk middle school aged
children; and
WHEREAS the program will provide positive alternatives for
children during after-school hours, weekends and school holidays; and
WHEREAS the programs proposed include classes~in Dance, Art,
Cinema, Sports, Creative Writing, Job Skills, computer training and a homework
center; and .
WHEREAS. the City of Lynwood desires to undertake a certain
project working in conjunction with the Lynwood Unified School District; and
WHEREAS the designated project called D.O.V.E. is to be funded
in part'from funds made available through the Positive Alternative Program
administered by the Office of Criminal Justice Planning (hereafter referred to as
OCJP).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE~CITY
COUNCIL -OF THE CITY OF LYN1/VOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the City Manager or his designee Director of
_ Recreation and Community Services of the City of Lynwood is authorized, on its
behalf to submit the grant proposal to OCJP.
' ~ ~ SECTION 2. That the City Manager or his designee is authorized to
prepare and execute an MOU with the Lynwood Unified School district to provide
for services as part of DOVE program.
SECTION 3. Should the City be successful in obtaining the grant,
staff will- bring back a resolution for City Council approval to provide all matching
funds. required for said project (including any amendment thereof) under the
Program and the funding-terms and conditions of OCJP.
SECTION 4. That the City Manager or his designee is-authorized to
organize the Community Prevention Board and conduct meetings as required by
the grant. ~ . .
SECTION 5. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
