PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: Watertown Middle School participated in the 19th Annual Malden
Catholic High School Quiz Bowl on January 28, 2012, competing against other
schools with questions based on the Massachusetts Frameworks on the topics of
mathematics, poetry, cell biology, Greek mythology, Islam, and the 2012 presidential
primaries, caucuses and conventions; and
WHEREAS: Last year the Watertown Middle School team came in second place, and
so had high expectations this year; and
WHEREAS: These expectations were dashed when a scoring error by the organizers
prevented them taking their place as one of the top three teams in the championship
round, despite having the highest total score of all other schools in the four
preliminary rounds, and despite appeals to the organizers.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Council of the City known
as the Town of Watertown hereby congratulates and recognizes the Watertown
Middle School 2012 MC Division Quiz Bowl Team: 8th graders Jeremy Holt and Cris
Patvakanian; 7th graders Stefanos Kiorpes, Ben Lowry, Julia Moynihan, James
Piccirilli and Danielle Schwalm; and 6th grader Nicky Cordeiro, as well as their leader
and mentor, 6th grade English teacher Kara Conceison.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Ms. Conceison and the Watertown MC
Division Team are to be commended for how gracefully they dealt with the events
beyond their control while standing up for their rights, and are to be recognized as
ambassadors of Watertown with their knowledge and values representing the very
best that our community has to offer.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the Town of Watertown
to be affixed on this 13th day of
March, 2012.
Mark S. Sideris, Council President
