Woodland District D Councilor Watertown Town Council Administration Building 149 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: 617-972-6470 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: Watertown Middle School participated in the 19th Annual Malden Catholic High School Quiz Bowl on January 28, 2012, competing against other schools with questions based on the Massachusetts Frameworks on the topics of mathematics, poetry, cell biology, Greek mythology, Islam, and the 2012 presidential primaries, caucuses and conventions; and WHEREAS: Last year the Watertown Middle School team came in second place, and so had high expectations this year; and WHEREAS: These expectations were dashed when a scoring error by the organizers prevented them taking their place as one of the top three teams in the championship round, despite having the highest total score of all other schools in the four preliminary rounds, and despite appeals to the organizers. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Council of the City known as the Town of Watertown hereby congratulates and recognizes the Watertown Middle School 2012 MC Division Quiz Bowl Team: 8th graders Jeremy Holt and Cris Patvakanian; 7th graders Stefanos Kiorpes, Ben Lowry, Julia Moynihan, James Piccirilli and Danielle Schwalm; and 6th grader Nicky Cordeiro, as well as their leader and mentor, 6th grade English teacher Kara Conceison. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Ms. Conceison and the Watertown MC Division Team are to be commended for how gracefully they dealt with the events beyond their control while standing up for their rights, and are to be recognized as ambassadors of Watertown with their knowledge and values representing the very best that our community has to offer.
