Box 2749 Tybee Island, GA 31328 RE: Letter of Permission (LOP), Maintenance of Two (2) Existing Dune Crossovers, Tybee Island, Chatham County, Georgia Dear Mr. Wilson: This letter is in response to your request, dated November 14, 2012, to perform maintenance on two existing dune crossovers that provide public access to the beach on Tybee Island. One of the existing dune crossovers commences from the middle of the north beach parking lot. The second crossover provides the beach access at the seaward terminus of 8 Street. Each proposed project includes the replacement of the existing structure and the extension of the seaward terminus of each structure. The existing dune crossovers were permitted under SPC Permit #169. Staff has conducted an onsite inspection of the permitted structures and found the structure is consistent with the authorization. The dune crossover in the North Beach parking lot will remain in its original footprint. Maintenance of the North Beach crossover will include the addition of approximately 150' of structure to the seaward terminus of the crossover. The maintenance of the 8 Street dune crossover includes the addition of not more than 100' of structure to the seaward terminus of the crossover. As proposed, each structure will protect the dynamic dune field by preventing unnecessary foot traffic in the recently accreted dune field. The Department authorizes the proposed maintenance of the existing dune crossovers as depicted by the attached drawings. As proposed, all work will be done within the footprint of the existing structure using hand tools only. No vegetation is to be disturbed beyond the limits of the project during construction. Any incidental impacts to the dunes or vegetation must be restored to pre - project vegetated and topographic condition; any backfilling must use beach quality sand obtained from an upland source. No storage of construction materials is permitted within the dunes. This LOP is valid for the above referenced projects only. Any change in the use, location, dimensions, or configuration of the approved project, without prior notification and approval from this office could result on the revocation of this permission and in the required removal of the materials and related structures. This project must comply with all other Federal, State, and local statutes, ordinances and regulations.
