A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYIVWOOD AUTHORIZING
THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WETIP AND AUTHORIZING THE
APPROPRIATION OF $3,097 FROM THE UNAPPROPRIATED SHERIFF FORFEITURE
FUND
WHEREAS, it is the City's goal to promote the safety of the community, and a feeling of security
among the citizens, through deterrence/prevention of crime and the identification and apprehension of
offenders; and
WHEREAS, the WeTip Program, a nonprofit organization, provides a mechanism for Sheriff
investigators to receive and distribute information on open criminal -investigations nationwide, especially in
the areas of gang violence and drug violations; and
WHEREAS, the WeTip Program maintains toll-free telephone lines, staffed 24 hours, in English
and Spanish, for receipt of information pertaining to fraudulent or criminal activity, internal and external
affect the City of Lynwood; and
WHEREAS, the Sheriffs investigators have requested this service because of the positive results
in past investigations with the WeTip Program, including informant anonymity; and
WHEREAS, the WeTip Program has established a reward program that enables law enforcement
in certain cases rewards of $1,000 or more where it.is demonstrable that a reward is appropriate; and
WHEREAS, the WeTip program annual fees for' the City of Lynwood will be $3,097 for one year,
based on the number of residents in the City; and to be paid from the Sheriff forfeiture fund; and ,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD,
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS
FOLLOW:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is authorized to execute a membership agreement by and
between the City of Lynwood and the WeTip.
.SECTION 2. That-the City Council authorize an appropriation of $3,097 from the
unappropriated Sheriff Forfeiture Fund.
' SECTION 3. That this resolution takes effect immediately upon its adoption.
