Younger has served five terms as Town Council President and School Committee Member; he is the longest serving Council President to date; and, WHEREAS: Clyde is the co-founder of the Watertown Education Foundation, a non profit group whose aim is to improve the education of our school children; and, WHEREAS: Mr. Younger advocated for the creation of the Stormwater Advisory Committee and a Budget and Fiscal Oversight Committee which were adopted by the Town Council. Under Clyde's leadership the Council voted to make significant renovations to the Watertown Free Public Library; voted to establish an assisted living facility known as the Brigham House; and pushed to have the Town Council administer monies from the Watertown/Harvard/O'Neil Charitable monies to non-profit groups,. Mr. Younger, serving as Council President also protected the public's interest by advocating successful negotiations of the fifty-two year PILOT agreement with Harvard University for the Arsenal Property; and, WHEREAS: Clyde was awarded by the Fire Department a firefighter's ax and named an honorary firefighter for his long commitment and support of public safety; NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Town Council of the City known as the Town of Watertown hereby recognizes Clyde L. Younger for his outstanding commitment to community; for reaching out to all those in need of help and for serving unselfishly and independently.
