Woodland, District D Councilor Watertown Town Council Administration Building 149 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: 617-972-6470 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS: Jerry York is a lifelong resident of Watertown. WHEREAS: Coach York graduated from Boston College High School in 1963 and Boston College in 1967. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's of education degree/ CAES in counseling psychology from Boston College. Coach York's wife, Bobbie, is also a graduate of Boston College. They have two children; Laurie and Brendan; and, WHEREAS: As a standout hockey player at Boston College, Coach York earned All- American first team and All -New England honors in 1966-67. He was the recipient of the Walter Brown Award and served as team captain; earning team MVP honors as a senior. York was a three-year letterman at Boston College and led the Eagles to a 60-26 record, the 1965 Beanpot title and a second -place finish in the 1965 NCAA tournament. He ranks among the school's all time leaders in career points, career goals, career assists and single season assists. He was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1982; and, WHEREAS: Coach York began his career at age 26 when he accepted the head coaching position at Clarkson in 1972 and led them to 125 wins before assuming the head post at Bowling Green on April 10, 1979. Coach York guided Bowling Green to six NCAA tournament berths and four CCHA regular season titles. He was inducted into the Bowling Green State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003; and, WHEREAS: In eighteen years, Coach York led the Eagles to 10 Hockey East regular season titles, 7 Hockey East tournament titles, 4 Beanpot titles, 11 NCAA tournament appearances and 4 national titles. Coach York's BC teams rank 1st in the NCAA in post season winning percentage. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Council of the City known as the Town of Watertown hereby extends their congratulations to Coach Jerry York as he makes Watertown proud in capturing the school's fourth NCAA title in his 18th year at Boston College. We recognize him for all his contributions and successes and wish him the best in future years.
