Petitto Devaney is being honored by the Town Council for her many years of dedicated service to the community; and, WHEREAS: Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney served as Councilor at large for nearly thirty years, committing herself to the citizens of Watertown and the disabled, serving on the Commission on Disabilities for many years; and, WHEREAS: Marilyn was appointed to serve as member of the Public Safety subcommittee for many years which considered the matters regarding the police, fire and civil defense departments of the Town. On November 24, 2009, the Fire Department bestowed upon her the highest compliment when they named her an honorary member and presented her with a firefighter's ax and roses; and,. WHEREAS: Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney was instrumental in the planning of the Watertown Boys and Girls Club which encompassed the use of town owned park land and private fund raising. She fought hard during her first years of service to retain the fire department's rescue ambulance which had a four minute response time and spoke out against the Town's NESWC trash contract and its per ton disposal fee and recently, she fought against the Anti Defamation League's unwillingness to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide; and, NOW THERFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED: that the Town Council, acting on behalf of the people of Watertown, hereby extends their deepest appreciation to Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney and takes great pride in honoring her tonight. We thank her for her many years of service and look forward to her continued interest and commitment in community affairs and our citizens as a Governor's Councilor.
