PROCLAMATION
Whereas: World War Two veterans, after having endured a long severe national
Depression, left their family and friends, as young men and women, and joined the
military, in great numbers, to fight against the enemies of freedom; and,
Whereas: World War Two veterans fought valiantly, over a period of several years, in
many nations around the world, enduring extreme hardships, joining their allies in the
war effort: and,
Whereas: World War Two veterans returned home in triumph after the war victorious,
got married, had children, got a job, bought a house, used the GI Bill to further their
education and enabled the United States of America to become the greatest country on
earth; and,
Whereas: World War Two veterans truly deserve the title of the "Greatest Generation".
They saved the world from a great evil. We owe them a great debt of gratitude; and,
Whereas: The Charles J. Shutt Marine Detachment of Watertown, Massachusetts is
proud and honored to be able to host this event today and join with many family and
friends of our World War Two veterans in according them the tribute they so richly
deserve.
Now therefore be it proclaimed: Saturday, April 21St as World War II Veterans' Day
in recognition and honor of all World War II veterans. The Town Council of the City
known as the Town of Watertown hereby thanks all those brave veterans who have
sacrificed so much for their country and call upon the community to join in the
recognition.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF,
I hereunto set my hand
And caused the Great Seal of
The Town of Watertown on this
21st day of April, 2012.
Mark S. Sideris, Council President
