Forbes, AICP , Commun ity Development Director ~ By : Jennifer Venters , Planning Secretary SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIONS -MEETING OF APRIL 28 , 2015 RECOMMENDATION: The C it y Counc il is requested to receive and file the Plann ing Commission (Commission) actions from their meeting of Apri l 28, 2015 . BACKGROUND: On April 28 , 2015, the Commission he ld their regular ly scheduled meetin g. ANALYSIS: The following is a summary of actio ns taken at the Ap ri l 28 , 2015 meeting : 1. R OLL CA LL: Present: Commissioner-Co rdes , Haddad , Horton , Vice-Chairman O 'Leary Absent: Commissioner -Chairman Leung Excused : Commissioner-None 2 . CO NSENT CALENDAR The Commiss ion approved the minutes from their regular meetings of April 14 , 2015. City Council May 19, 2015 Page 2 of 2 3 . PUBLIC HEARING A. AN AMENDMENT TO THE ZONING CODE TO REQUIRE WATER EFFICIENT LANDSCAPING . THE STATE LEGISLATURE PASSED AB 1881 , THE WATER CONSERVATION IN LANDSCAPING ACT OF 2006 , REQUIRING LOCAL AGENCIES TO ADOPT A WATER EFFICIENT LANDSCAPE ORDINANCE OR NOTIFY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES (DWR) ABOUT THE INTENT OF A LOCAL AGENCY TO FOLLOW THE DEPARTMENT'S 2009 MODEL ORDINANCE . IN COMPLYING WITH THE STATE 'S REQUIREMENT, TEMPLE CITY STAFF SENT THE LETTER OF INTENT TO DWR ON FEBRUARY 11, 2010 , INDICATING THAT THE CITY WILL FOLLOW THE STATE'S MODEL ORDINANCE WHILE WORKING ON DEVELOPING A LOCAL ORDINANCE The Commiss ion recommended that the City Council approve an amendment to the Zoning Code to require Water Efficient Landscaping . The Commission provided input to staff that may encourage greater measures regarding water conservation and standards for future droughts . The proposed amendment to the Zoning Code to require Water Efficient Landscaping wou ld apply to new developments citywide . 4 . UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None 5 . NEW BUSINESS-None 6 . COMMUNICATIONS-None 7 . UPDATE FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR-None 8 . ADJOURNMENT The Commission meeting was adjourned at 8 :42 p.m . CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to receive and f ile this report . FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fisc al Year 2014-15 City Budget.
