RESOLUTION NO.2013-4
RESOLUTION DECLARING OFFICIAL INTENT TO PURCHASE
PROPERTY FOR HOMELESS SHELTER
WHEREAS, there is a need in the City of Greencastle to provide temporary housing for
individuals and families that are homeless and need shelter;
WHEREAS, the City has determined that the location of the former homeless shelter is
appropriate and available. The Iand is more particularly described as follows:
Lot 190 in the Original Plat of the Town, now City, of Greencastle, Indiana, and Lot 186
in the Original Plat of the Town, now city, of Greencastle, Indiana. ALSO, all that
portion of ground formerly known as Spring Street in the City of Greencastle, Indiana, as
it is now platted between Franklin Street and Columbia Street, in Greencastle, Indiana,
which attaches to either or both of the above described lots by virtue of the same being
vacated by action of the Common Council of the City of Greencastle, Indiana, in a
resolution recorded on the 23rd day of December, 1973 in Miscellaneous Record 39 at
page 646 in the Office of the Recorder of Putnam County, Indiana.
Excluding the following:
Lot 186 in the Original Plat of the Town (now City), of Greencastle; ALSO 83 feet off
the West side of Lot 190 in the Original Plat of the Town (now City) of Greencastle;
ALSO, part of Spring Avenue that was vacated by Greencastle City Council action on
December 20, 1971, described as follows: Beginning at a point in the center of Spring
Avenue, said point being the intersection of Spring Avenue with the North line of
Franklin Street; thence East along the North line of Franklin Street for a distance of 24
feet to the Southwest corner of Lot 190 in the Original Plat of Greencastle; thence North
along the West line of said Lot 190, for a distance of 24 feet to the Southwest corner of
Lot 190; thence 48 feet to the Northeast corner of Lot 186 in the Original Plat of said
City; thence South along the East Iine of said Lot 186 for a distance of 101.2 feet to the
Southeast corner of said Lot 186; thence East 24 feet to a point in the center of Spring
Avenue; thence South along the center of Spring Avenue for a distance of 113.2 feet to
the place of beginning.
The Property is commonly known as 309 E. Franklin Street, Greencastle, Indiana.
WHEREAS,two appraisals have been completed of the properties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Greencastle
that the City of Greencastle hereby declares its official intent to purchase the above described
property for no more than the average of the two appraisals. The Board further delegates
authority to negotiate the terms of this acquisition to the Mayor and the City Attorney.
