A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD APPROVING THE NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2000,
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH STREET SIGN DEDICATION, AND
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH HANDBOOK AND DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO CONTINUE STAFF PARTICIPATION IN THE
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Crime is .lower in areas where residents engage with each other as
neighbors-both common sense and research support this, and
WHEREAS, Safe, healthy neighborhoods provide many settings and ways for citiiens of
the neighborhood to interact in positive ways with each other and
WHEREAS, However, when it comes to crime prevention, probably no interaction is more
important than engaging as a neighbor with the people on one's block; and
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood-Watch program is a tool that helps neighborhood blocks to
build community and solve neighborhood crime and disorder problems; and
WHEREAS, the City participates in the Neighborhood Watch program by assisting a
resident with organizing and arranging a meeting for the block and. by attending the Neighborhood
Watch Executive. Board and General Membership Meetings to stay informed of neighborhood
concerns; and
WHEREAS, for FY 2000-20001 staff proposes to work with the Neighborhood Watch
Captains in organizing a National Night Out. Parade 2000, organizing a Street Sign Dedication,
creating a Neighborhood Watch Handbook and .providing staff participation at the Neighborhood
Watch program;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE
AND ORDER AS FOLLOW:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is authorized to organize the National Night Out
.Parade 2000.
SECTION 2. .That the City Manager is authorized to organize the first.Neighborhood
Street Sign Dedication to take place on July 22, 2000.
SECTION 3. That the City Manager is authorised to compile a Neighborhood Watch
Handbook.
SECTION. 4. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
