HomeMy Public PortalAboutMinutes_CCMeeting_02181993MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING FEB. 18, 1993 AT 7:00 PM PRESENT: Mayor Karen Hansen, Dee Johnson, Craig Rockwood, Deb Sorerson, Betty McKinlay, Dave Huntsman. VISITORS: Ted Sorenson, Ross Johnson. City Council Meeting was open. Mayor Hansen welcomed all there. Minutes of the previous City Council Meeting were read and approved. Dee Johnson moved and Deb Sorenson 2nd. All were in favor. Financial report was discussed. Sch Dist 973.44 Blue Sheild Health 244.40 Craig Rockwood moved and Deb Sorenson 2nd the minutes be approved with exception of Bonn. School Dist. It was suggested to wait until the School Dist. brought back the range they took and said we could have, before payment is made. All were in favor. (NOTE: The range was brought back and payment of $973.44 was made on 2/22/93.) Ted Sorenson from Sorenson Engineering was in attendance to answer questions & get the Addendum #1 Agreement for Engineering Services between Iona City and Sorenson Engineering signed. Ted mentioned he'd give us copies of the blue print. An Inspector needs to be hired. Dave Huntsman mentioned he had talked to a Civil Engineer & Ted Sorenson about hiring an Inspector. If the Engineer has their own Inspector then the project would be inspected right. Ross Johnson needs to be there and his hours could be in -kind fees. Payment will be made at a certain phrase and at $65,000 will be pro -rate per month. Ted mentioned it's a nice formality to have a Well Permit. The City and Ted gets the permit. Ted will contact Water Resources. The Water right for the Well the City gets. Well driller has to get permit to drill. Ted will check on the permit and get copy of the application. If we change our mind on things we are still charged. Changes made now there will be no charges. Dave Huntsman moved we accept Addendum #1 Agreement for Engineering Services between City of Iona and Sorenson Engineering. Deb Sorenson 2nd. A11 were in favor. It was suggested to go through the Water Ordinance and have in place within 2 weeks so we can get it back to Dale Storer. Dave Huntsman suggested sending out new contract to the people outside the City limits. Dave also moved we raise water rates for everyone 20% in April. Deb Sorenson 2nd the motion. A11 were in favor. It was mentioned that houses are being built down Crook Road. Craig Rockwood visited with John Lurus about his water. Mr. Lurus' concern is with having assurance of meeting these people hook ups and not doing anything ever. He will need to sign an agreement also. He needs to unhook the fire hydrant later on. He wants a waterline 6"to the corner. Mr. Lurus wants everything written in a letter. His 2" line will hook onto 6". As houses go in down Crook Road a 6" line will need to be put in and maintained by City. Dave moved we accept John Lurus agreement. Dee Johnson 2nd and all were in favor. The City will maintain water line from corner of Free to Morrow's or City limits. It was mentioned that there is a dog problem on Steele Ave. Mr. & Mrs. Stubbs have a lot of animals and the dogs bother them. The delinquent water bills were discussed. Craig Rockwood suggested getting Don Aicher to build backboards for basketball in the Square. Night drop was discussed. Deb Sorenson will get a hold of Glen Clark to build it. Ross Johnson was asking what to do if people want to make arrangements to pay there late water bills. It was suggested to talk to Mayor Hansen to make arrangements. Handicap ramp was discussed. The building has to be handicap assessable. Voting will have to take place at the Iona Elementary School this year. The Lions Club has done a lot for the City Building. They will buy paint for the Kitchen. The Committee would like to have an Open House. Mrs. Thornton wants to donate money to fix one of the rooms in memory of her son missing in action in Viet Nam. Deb Sorenson suggested having the locks changed or keys to the building and shop. July 1st. the Lead and Copper need to be monitored. A kit costing $900 is available.
