Driscoll, Town Manager Date: May 18, 2012 RE: AGENDA ITEM — APPROVAL OF GIFT EXPENDITURE Enclosed please find correspondence from Police Chief Edward P. Deveau indicating the Watertown Police Department has received a donation of $2,500 from the estate of Watertown resident Delia P. Frissora. As indicated in Chief Deveau's correspondence, the monies would be placed into the Department's Police Athletic League Account in order to benefit the children of Watertown. Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 44, Section 53A, any expenditure of gifts of funds needs the approval of the Town Manager and Town Council. I respectfully request the attached Resolution approving this gift expenditure be placed on the May 22, 2012 Town Council Agenda for your consideration. Tracy, Town Auditor Resolution # R-2012 - Resolution approving the Acceptance and Expenditure of Gifts of Funds WHEREAS: from time to time, this community is the beneficiary of a gift donated towards improving the quality and spirit of its inhabitants lives; and WHEREAS: the estate of Delia P. Frissora, late of 86 Waverley Avenue will donate "Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars" to the Police Department; and WHEREAS: the donation will be placed into the department's Police Athletic League Account in order to benefit the children of Watertown. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Town Council of the City known as the Town of Watertown, hereby accepts pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 44, Section 53A, a monetary gift of "Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars" from the estate of Delia P. Frissora. Attached is a letter from Attorney Bernard T. Loughran, jr. whose office represents the Estate of Delia P. Frissora which outlines the reason for this gift to the police department. I am requesting your assistance in placing this gift expenditure before the Honorable Town Council for its review and action at its meeting scheduled for May 22, 2012. Should approval be granted, it is my Intention to place the $2,500.00 into the department's Police Athletic League Account in order to benefit the children of Watertown.
