Citizens Sneak - None Priority Business Food Service Presentation — Sue Murray, Director of Nutrition and Food Services along with Cafeteria Managers Lisa Chappel and Cindy DeOlivena prepared trays of breakfast foods for tasting by the School Committee . Breakfast items were displayed and caloric intake and portions were explained . She also reported that students are receptive to breakfast and they will keep fmding ways to get more involved. She explained the USDA caloric ranges and indicated that these must be followed for a reimbursable meal . Hank Schumacher asked if many students participated in the breakfast program in Orleans and she replied that about 5 % of the student population is eating breakfast in Orleans, or 25 -30 students daily, and some days as many as 50 students . Orleans students have outdoor recess before school, sponsored by the PTC , and then the kids come in and eat breakfast. Deb Beal asked about the vitamin and minerals and Ms . Murray indicated that they do not look at the vitamins and minerals but at the fat and sodium content. Regulations indicate that you must serve food with less than 10% fat. It was also noted that there are many egg choices with sausage, with vegetables, and gluten free . Superintendent Conrad presented Susan Murray with a certificate from the National Nutrition Council and offered congratulations to her. 1Page Joint SC Meeting 12 - 7 - 2016 Wellness Policv The Superintendent indicated that the Wellness Subcommittee and the Policy Subcommittee have approved the policy stating that all foods brought to school must be pre-packaged and include a label to keep students with allergies safe. The Superintendent also indicated that several schools have contracts to sell fudge this year and it will be allowed but will not be going forward. Ann Crozier, Chair of the Policy Subcommittee, indicated that the policy is trying to limit food celebrations at school . Other topics mentioned were the physical education requirements, if Middle School students have enough time to eat lunch, and celebrating in ways that do not include food. Motion: Brewster — On a motion by Dave Telman, seconded by Claire Gradone it was voted 3 yeas to approve the Wellness Policy as submitted for a first reading . Region — On a motion by Ed Lewis , seconded by Robert Sinclair, it was voted 6 yeas to approve the Wellness Policy as written for a first reading . Eastham — On a motion by Joanne Irish, seconded by Mary Lou Sette, it was voted 5 yeas to approve the Wellness Policy as written for a fust reading. Orleans — On a motion by David Abel , seconded by Hank Schumacher, it was voted 3 yeas to approve the Wellness Policy as written for a first reading . Wellfleet — On a motion by Jill Putnam, seconded by Mort Inger, it was voted 3 yeas to approve the Wellness Policy as written for a first reading . FY18 Central Office Budget Gail Briere, Chair of the Central Office Subcommittee, gave a complete summary of the Central Office Budget indicating that the percentage increase is 2 . 42 % and a dollar increase of $ 39 , 883 . $ 50, 859 has been reserved for negotiations as noted on page 4 of the budget worksheet . She reviewed the increases and reductions in line items with the rationale behind it. She reported that the Central Office Budget Subcommittee met on November 16 and December 1 to review the Budget . Members of the Committee are : Chris Easely and Tracy Vanderschmidt for the Region, Ann Crozier for Eastham, Jan Plaue for Wellfleet, Jessica Larsen for Brewster and Gail Briere for Orleans . The Central Office Subcommittee voted unanimously (7-0) to recommend this proposed budget of $ 1 , 687 ,641 representing a percentage increase of 2 .42 % and a dollar increase of $ 39 , 883 . Members clarified that the budget does not contain any salary increase for negotiations and the budget figure is not the final budget number. Clarification was given for the Assistant Superintendent ' s salary and where to find the breakdown of funding sources . The Superintendent indicated that most of the employees at the Central Office are non-union employees with individual contracts which will be negotiated before June, 2017 . The Central Office employees and the Principals do not have collective bargaining . Mr. Sinclair suggested that the 2Page Joint SC Meeting 12 - 7 - 2016 Professional Development line item for the Superintendent be increased so that he could attend more conferences . The Superintendent indicated that for this year the amount is sufficient as Mr. Gauley has obtained grant money for him to attend conferences . He would probably revisit that line item next year. Motion. Brewster — On a motion by David Telman, seconded by Claire Gradone, it was voted 3 yeas to approve the FYI Central Office Budget as submitted . Region — On a motion by Ed Lewis, seconded by Chris Galazzi, it was voted 6 yeas to approve the FYI 8 Central Office Budget as submitted . Eastham — On a motion by Joanne Irish, seconded by Ann Crozier, it was voted 5 yeas to approve the FYI 8 Central Office Budget as submitted . Orleans — On a motion by Gail Briere, seconded by Hank Schumacher, it was voted 3 yeas to approve the FYI Central Office Budget as submitted . Wellfleet — On a motion by Jill Putnam, seconded by Moil Inger, it was voted 3 yeas to approve the FYI 8 Central Office Budget as submitted. Approval of Minutes On a motion by Ed Lewis , seconded by David Telman, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes of October 27 , 2016 . Adjournment On a motion by Ed Lewis, seconded by Ed Brookshire, it was voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 6 : 40 p . m. Respectfully Submitted, Ann M .
