AGENDA 1. Call to Order 2. Acceptance of Minutes [2.14.12] • Approved – John K, Margo, Ken abstained as they weren’t at last meeting 3. Solar Hot Water Grants • Amelia Tracy, Paradigm Partners • working with towns to make grants for construction grants for hot water solar panels, save 20% -25% of cost [grant from MCE] , typical cost is $80k-$100k per project Amelia will work with us in completing the grant proposal • deadline for feasibility studies has passed • study costs $5k-$10k for all town buildings 1. ~25% of studies have resulted in moving forward 2. Best candidates have oil heat, “consistent use”, need to have a demand • have options to assist with 3rd Party financing • could do hot water and space heating combined • typical payback is ~4 years • could apply for Green Communities Funds for rest of costs • Paradigm can be hired on for construction consulting services • Andy will have his sister-in-law investigate the building in Town that will have the best chance for quickest payback, report back 4. PR Person • Ria needs some help right now, Caroline volunteered to assist 5. Solarize Massachusetts [CEC] • Andy attended meeting in Harvard yesterday. • Help town set up a group purchasing power arrangement • Get homeowners to sign up for electricity installs 1. price drops based on increased number of folks that sign up 2. ended up with 75 homes signed up, everyone gets lowest price a. over 100 people signed up 3. also ended up with a solar farm [250kW] • doing 2nd round of opportunities for rest of Green Communities [80 total] • have to apply – identify ambassador, grid types, etc SGC 022812 ~~ REV. 9/17/2012 ~~ PAGE 2 OF 2 • each individual home can choose PPA, purchase, or lease • Unanimously approved that Andy will apply for this and be the ambassador. 6. Old Business • High School Floor Plans and Recycling Bin Locations • Nancy and Caroline walked through High School today 1. Doesn’t look like there is a need for large toters, not easy to dump these toters and they will not be filled up for a considerable amount of time a. rather have one member of custodial staff pick up the bottles and cans one day a week 2. custodial staff now dumping paper from each floor one day per week per floor • for large areas like athletic center, locker rooms and common area outside library, add a recycling container for bottles/cans anywhere there is a garbage can 1. John K will contact Harvey’s about containers with wheels with bottle cut-out, maybe ~ 50 gallon capacity, will ask for 8 • Have okay from Fire Chief • Shred Day • Harvey’s will support, need two weeks notice • Link with Green-Up Day, 4.28.12 • Suggest it be done at one of the schools 7. New Business • Laura Davies • Has more land available to her this year. • Any interest in doing Farmer’s Market on common. • Told her to go to Parks and Rec • Laura looking to contact head janitor to capture general information on how school deals with recycling, etc Adjourned at 9:25 PM.
