HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080908 budget work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 1 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) CALL TO ORDER The Council Budget Committee Work Session meeting of September 8, 2008, was convened at 5:30 P.M. by Councilman Rich Koon, Finance Committee Chairman ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Crane* (left at 6:30 P.M.), Carroll, Ferguson, Harvey, Klindt, Koon, Layton, Medin, and Penfold Absent: Randolph A quorum was present. DISCUSSION Co- Chairman Koon turned the meeting over to City Administrator Steve Rasmussen for staff presentations. Discussion was held regarding the dates for the remaining budget meetings. The following motions were acted upon regarding various budget items: A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey to clean up on the parking lot by removing the patrolman as it is already funded, seconded by Councilwoman Carrie Carroll. Following discussion, Councilman Harvey withdrew his motion and Councilwoman Carrie Carroll withdrew her second/ A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey, seconded by Councilwoman Carrie Carroll, to remove the detective and patrolman (officer) with priority being given to public safety per vacancy saving. The motion was approved unanimously by voice vote. A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey, seconded by Councilman Ron Medin, that the additional firemen's pension be removed from the parking lot, to be considered when the Council decides it is necessary and the need arises. Following discussion, Councilman Harvey withdrew his motion and Councilman Medin withdrew his second. A motion was made by Councilman Ron Medin, seconded by Councilman Mike Harvey, to add items #1 and #2 from Exhibit A which was distributed to the Council, onto the Parking Lot. Those items are: "the health insurance premium increase will be reduced another 2 %" COUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 2 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) and "Transit subsidy reduction due to health insurance reduction ". Motion was approved unanimously by voice vote. A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey, seconded by Councilman Kenneth Ferguson, to reduce Fleet Management to the amount that will bring the items on the parking lot to balance. Finance Director Steve Schlueter stated that amount would be $267,915. The motion was approved by the following roll -call vote: Aye: Carroll, Harvey, Koon, Layton, Medin, and Penfold Nay: Ferguson and Klindt A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey, seconded by Councilman Ron Medin, to schedule the next meeting at 5:30 P.M. on September 17, and approved unanimously by voice vote. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey, seconded by Councilwoman Cindy Layton, to adjourn, and approved unanimously at 7:30 P.M.
