RESOLUTION NO. 2002.007
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD SUPPORTING REAUTHORIZATION OF THE
TRANSPORTATION EQUITY ACT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION FUNDING BILL
WHEREAS, Congress is commencing work on the reauthorization of the
Transportation. Equity Act for the 21 S` Century (TEA-21) as submitted by the Los Angeles
County Transportation Authority (MTA); and
` WHEREAS, in its authorization of $42 ,billion for transit and $175 billion for
highways, TEA-21~ established initiatives related. to flexible spending, improving the
environment and focused on a thorough planning process for making sound transportation, and
WHEREAS, TEA-21 brought to the Los Angeles ,region innovative
transportation programs such as: over 1900 new natural gas. operated buses; paratransit funding,
the completion of 125 miles of carpool lanes, etc., and
WHEREAS, Los, Angeles County's population is nearly one-third of California's
population, which` is larger than 42 states. Los Angeles county is the 20`x' largest economy m the
world and generate more economic activity than all, but eight states in the United; and
WHEREAS, those statistics illuminate that the transportation needs-of the region
are acute and pressing; and •
WHEREAS, the MTA along with other principah transportation interests have
sponsored a regional list of projects for TEA-21 reauthorization funding, and
WHEREAS, projects submitted by MTA on behalf of transportation- interests in
the region will help address the region's safety, security and transportation needs m the
categories of bus; rail.and highway projects; and `
WHEREAS, the Lynwood City Council supports the full inclusion of the Los
Angeles County region's sponsored projects list into the legislation to reauthorize the TEA-21.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Lynwood as follows
Section 1 • That the City Council affirms its commitment to the reauthonzahon of
TEA-21 `
Section 2: That the City~Council supports the hst of projects submitted for TEA-
21 reauthorization and request Congressional action to fully fund and implement these projects
and continue the ongoing support for the transportation needs of Los Angeles region.
Section 3 This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
