HomeMy Public PortalAbout20120917 - Parks & Recreation - Meeting Minutes Page: 1 Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Meeting Minutes of 9-17-12 The Parks and Recreation Meeting was called to order by Chairman Ken Driscoll on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 7:05 PM. Chairman Ken Driscoll, Bob Dobinski, Brian Eberlin, Brian O’Keefe, Dan Terry, Joan Bannon and Mike Curtin were present. Mike Moonan- Weston and Sampson Action Items from 9-6-12  Joan – Survey P&R property across from Sandy Beach Action Items from 9-17-2012  Bob- Request HYS Bank Statement, Fruit Street Account  Joan – Gazebo print matted and framed  Joan – Invite marathon committees to P&R meeting  Joan - User/Field Fees  Joan – summer program spreadsheet  Joan – Contact Green Acres for Fruit Street grass areas that need to be taken care of and areas in front of turf fields that were just added irrigation action item approved Joan will get it done  Joan – Flag pole action item approved Joan will get it done  Joan- Fence for Fruit Street Fields  Joan- Invite Jean Vazza to either 11/5 or 11/19 meeting  Joan- Contact Green Acres for tire track fixing prices  Joan- Get lock for back gate at Fruit Street  Joan- Inquire to Chuck Kadlik on details for temporary sign for Fruit Street Fields  Joan- Contact Girl Scouts in regards to tree on Town Common Meeting Minutes from 9-17-12 Approved Weston and Sampson – Michael Moonan  Michael introduced preliminary plans for Sandy Beach Reconstruction  Currently in Field Survey and Base Map process (topography for Wetlands)  Look for preliminary design on paper by the end of the week  Inquire about tree removal at beach- Dead Trees, Smaller Trees?  P & R will request funds from CPC for parking lot and path systems for ADA compliance  Plans for Bathhouse o Size and setup for mens’s and women’s bathrooms o Indoor/Outdoor showers? o Size of storage room o Vandal proof?  7:30 September 26: Plan for quick revision of draft plans with P & R commission o Building Plans/ Elevations o Parking Lot Layout in regards to trailers  Design Development Level for 10/1; bringing draft set of designs to meeting and define plan for meeting  Joint Submission to Conservation Commission and Planning Board Oct 10 Notice of Intent Page: 2  Ken Driscoll advised update on project in press release, also possible press release in fall regarding Vegetation movement  10/15 Go over with Parks and Recreation Commission  10/29 Conservation Committee Meeting  Plan to bid job +/- January Directors Report:  Resident of 55 Fruit Street advised P&R of people constantly turning around in driveway o Either put temporary sign up and inquire to Chuck Kadlik on details for signs  Ask Greenacres to fertilize Fruit Street Fields, ask for guarantee on work for next year (ultimatum)  Commission voted yes for approval to extend guard rail in Fruit Street parking lot  Fruit Street Lock for P&R  File Police Report for Fruit Street Vandalism  Possible barn to replace trailers at Fruit Street o Architecturally Distinctive o Mini-Storage (P&R trailer, HYS and HBLAX) o Contact Dave Daltorio  Possibility of moving Christmas Tree location on common o Lights and electricity? o Ask the Hopkinton Girl Scouts to get a better tree for the common and decorations that will stay on tree o “Commission would still like tree close to the Gazebo, would accept input from neighbors” Chairman’s Report: New Business:  Brian Eberlin keep old bathrooms at Sandy Beach?  Bob Dobinski wanted to add a column into the Hopkinton Independent Community briefs for new programs.  Bob Dobinski Cross Trainer Gym owner Drew interested in partnership/membership with school kids.  Men’s basketball interested in using indoor facilities prior to Oct 1 start.  Dan Terry- Kate Scully would be interested in helping marketing for women’s softball next spring; possibly invite her to a meeting.  Brian O’Keefe, in regards to dissatisfaction in Frozen Ropes camp; how can we validate a program? Create online survey?  Brian O’Keefe suggested possibility to capitalize on EEE fever and create indoor recreational facilities. Town Committee Reports:  Brian Eberlin is currently constructing a 3D map but still needs irrigation plots  Bob Dobinski stated that the 300th Committee had a booth at polyarts; making good headway. Possibilities for further fundraising; ball, dance or parade. Liaison Reports:  LMPA is looking for a $1000/year weed study for the lake done by either DPW or P&R. Concern right now is there are 2 weeds that are unidentified.  Rail Trail is currently looking at private and town properties for walking and biking trail. An attempt is being made to connect the rail trail to the State Park. Page: 3 o Don’t have funding for ADA compliance  Soccer is getting together next week to figure out funding. Currently they are trying to figure out which fields are best for activities. (Temporary Lights on Grass or Turf fields?) Property Reports: P&R Meeting Dates: Board changed the next meeting dates to 9/26, 10/1, 10/15. Joan will send out dates to discuss P&R Operating Model.
