On a motion by Marie Enochty, seconded by Robert Miller, it was voted unanimously to appoint David Telman as chair of the Brewster School Committee . On a motion by Claire Gradone, seconded by Jessica Larsen, it was voted unanimously to appoint Marie Enochty as Vice Chair of the Brewster School Committee . Other positions : Ann Tefft, Secretary Payroll Authorizer: Claire Gradone and Jessica Larsen Policy Subcommittee : David Telman Central Office Budget — Claire Gradone Negotiations — Jessica Larsen Transportation — Claire Gradone Health and Wellness — Jessica Larsen Renewable Energy — Robert Miller Building and Facilities — Robert Miller Cape Cod Collaborative — Jessica Larsen PTA Liaison — Claire Gradone School Council Liaison - Robert Miller and Jessica Larsen Union 54 Voting — David Telman, Marie Enochty, Claire Gradone Alternates- Jessica Larsen and Robert Miller Citizens Sneak — none PRIORITY BUSINESS Administrators ' Reports Vice Chair Enochty asked members to email the Principals if they had questions with the reports that were included in the packet. Mr. Gauley report was included in the packet and there were no questions from committee members . Superintendent Conrad reported that at the Joint School Committee meeting they will ratify the teacher, educational assistant and secretarial contracts . He enthusiastically shared his visit to MIT to look at a PreK — 12 Robotics Program. He toured the Lincoln Lab, Media Centers and applied learning facilities . MIT is happy to assist in any way to help in the public school system . There is a possibility that staff will come and do professional development with Nauset teachers . He is considering modeling the Einstein Institute at the High School where the District brings teachers in for a 34 week program in science . In his PreK42 initiative, MIT would help with what would be a wise investment in technology going forward. The Director of the Lincoln Lab is meeting with the Superintendent next week. He would also like to see if we could use student teachers from MIT in the district. He would like to get students from the MIT architectural school to work on the High School building project and sit on the building committee . IJPage Brewster School Committees - 24 - 2017 He reported that, to date, there are 50 students registered for Kindergarten . Historically, 5 or 6 more students on average may register. That will put Stony Brook at the minim number of students in a class according to School Committee class size guidelines for Kindergarten . Administration will be watching this very carefully. He also reported that the $ 1 . 3 million feasibility study was approved in all four towns . A question was raised in one of the towns relative to enrollment and the number of region students compared to school choice students . A suggestion was made to move the Gr 6 students back to the elementary schools if the region decide not to participate in school choice This would require a good deal of discussion and research. He wanted the committee to know what was being discussed in the community. The Regional School Committee will also, at some point, tackle this question. The Superintendent indicated that the Feasibility Study would take at least 18 months . The first modular to be submitted to the MSBA is a great deal of data on enrollment. FY17 Budget Review Giovanna Venditti reviewed the FYI budget for the Stony Brook School noting an ending balance of $ 87,431 . She highlighted accounts 5013 - Substitute Teachers, 5022-Other Instructional Material, 5045 - Supplies Custodial, 5043 -Fuel oil (which showed a $ 18 , 000 savings that has not been unencumbered), and 504 &Contract Services Building, At Eddy School the balance is $ 16, 665 . Ms . Venditti highlighted account 701 & Substitutes for Professional Development, account 7035 Substitute Nurse, and 7049-Contracted Service Equipment . She indicated that she will be working with the Principals to develop an En&of--Year Spending Plan . Special Needs preschool prepayment will be part of the spend down plan . Principal 's Search Assistant Superintendent Keith Gauley updated the committee on the Principal Search for Stony Brook School . Members of the Screening Committee includes : Phil Bart, Sharon Coats, Noah Campbell-Halley, Joanna Hughes, Keith Gauley and Marie Enochty. The Committee received 33 applications to review and have scheduled 8 interviews and 1 alternate interview. The committee is on track and doing well . Reports and Information Preschool Enrollment — Preschool enrollment will be sent to committee members . Cape Cod Collaborative — Jessica Larsen reported that the Collaborative hired Dr. Kevin Turner to be the new Director of Way Point. They are also pursuing the possibility of moving to the Wing School . School Councils — No report from Stony Brook. Claire Gradone reported that the Eddy School is reviewing their five year school improvement plan . PTO — No report. Policy Subcommittee — No report. Transportation Subcommittee — Claire Gradone indicated that the Transportation Subcommittee has a meeting scheduled for June 6 at 4 : 30 p .m. Substance Abuse Subcommittee — Jessica Larsen indicated she was unable to attend the meeting but there will be a report at the Joint School Committee . Vice Chair Marie Enochty shared the news of Paul Kehoe being nominated as Elementary Teacher of the Year and invited parents, students and staff to attend the Celebration of Excellence on May 25 `h at 6 : 00 p .m.
