Lawn, Jr., District D Councilor Watertown Town Council Administration Building 149 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: 617-972-6470 Resolution #22 R-2010-22 Whereas: "Earth Hour," is an annual event where people around the world agree to turn off their lights between 8:30 and 9:30 pm local time as a way to take an action for global climate change; and, Whereas: last year, hundreds of millions of people around the globe participated in this event; and, Whereas: in 2009, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building, the Acropolis in Athens and St. Peter's in Rome were among the sites that went dark; and, Whereas: Massachusetts is an official Earth Hour state; and, Whereas: the Town Council of the city known as the Town of Watertown is committed to working to mitigate climate change by, for example, creating an Environment and Energy Efficiency Committee and purchasing fuel efficient vehicles; and, Whereas: Earth Hour symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact on the call for action on climate change, protecting our future and that of future generations. Now therefore be it resolved that the Town Council of the city known as the Town of Watertown instructs the Town Manager to turn off all lights in municipal buildings between 8:30 and 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 27, excepting those that are essential to maintaining public safety, and Be it further resolved that the Town Council of the city known as the Town of Watertown, Massachusetts urges all of its citizens to turn off all household lights between 8:30 and 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 27. Council Member I hereby certify that at a regular meeting of the Town Council for which a quorum was present, the above Resolution was adopted by voice vote on March 23, 2010.
