HomeMy Public PortalAboutSharpening The Vision PresentationSHARPENING THE VISION A N UP -DATE THE BREWSTER VISION ADVISORY GROUP PRESENTATION OVERVIEW •First vision workshops: description and results •Where we are now •Next steps FIRST VISION WORKSHOPS Three workshops in late June, same format, Brewster Baptist Church Publicity: newspaper articles, newspaper ad, Town website, Town committees email, not-for profit email lists, posters, flyers, PSA, BFD electronic sign 135 people participated Also, vision exercise at Eddy School and review of Government Study Committee survey WORKSHOP PROCESS •Small groups (5-10 people) •Facilitator guides discussion •Reporter records responses on flip chart •Workshop length approximately 2 and a half hours WORKSHOP QUESTIONS 1.What aspects of the Town to do value most and want to preserve for the future? (record responses and number of people who had the same or similar treasure) 2.What conditions present a challenge to the Town? (Record responses and individuals vote with dots for most important ) 3.What opportunities can the Town build on? (Record responses and individuals vote with dots for most important ) 4.How would you like to describe Brewster in 10 years? Local Economy Promote a sustainable economy the builds on Brewster’s natural and human assets, addresses the needs of small businesses, and provides year round employment for Brewster’s young families BUILDING BLOCKS (CONT’D) Building Block Draft Goal Coastal management Preserve and protect Brewster‘s coastal resources and expand public access. Water resources Protect Brewster’s fresh water system to preserve high quality drinking water and maintain or improve the health of our ponds and marine watersheds Governance Create a more open and inclusive town government that encourages participation by all citizens through improved communication, expanding volunteer opportunities, and, encouraging customer friendly service Community infrastructure Maintain and expand town infrastructure in ways that expand opportunities for community interaction, support the development of a “green” economy, expand recreation opportunities, and promote public safety.
