Three workshops in late June, same
format, Brewster Baptist Church

1.What aspects of the Town to do value most and want to
preserve for the future? (record responses and number
of people who had the same or similar treasure)
2.What conditions present a challenge to the Town?
(Record responses and individuals vote with dots for
most important )
3.What opportunities can the Town build on? (Record
responses and individuals vote with dots for most
important )
4.How would you like to describe Brewster in 10 years? (
Individuals write their vision on an index card)

•BVAG reviews answers to each question
•Create categories for similar types of
answers
•Record the number of mentions for each
category (treasures, vision statements) or
priority votes (challenges, opportunities)
•Total the number of votes or mentions to

Building Block Draft Goal
Community character Sustain and foster Brewster’s historic setting,
rural nature, small town feel, and socially
inclusive spirit
Open space Maintain and expand open space assets to
provide public recreation, protect fragile natural
habitat, and protect water resources
Housing Provide and promote housing opportunities to
support Brewster’s diverse population and
labor force.
Local Economy Promote a sustainable economy the builds on
Brewster’s natural and human assets,
addresses the needs of small businesses, and
provides year round employment for Brewster’s
young families

Building Block Draft Goal
Coastal management Preserve and protect Brewster‘s coastal
resources and expand public access.
Water resources Protect Brewster’s fresh water system to
preserve high quality drinking water and
maintain or improve the health of our ponds
and marine watersheds
Governance Create a more open and inclusive town
government that encourages participation by
all citizens through improved communication,
expanding volunteer opportunities, and,
encouraging customer friendly service
Community infrastructure Maintain and expand town infrastructure in
ways that expand opportunities for community
interaction, support the development of a
“green” economy, expand recreation
opportunities, and promote public safety.
