March 2014 Newsletter
Dear Gulf Stream Residents,
UNDERGROUNDING UPDATES!!
The Undergrounding Project Phase I is underway after lengthy delays due to Florida
Power and Light. Phase I is from Golfview Road south to Pelican Lane. Phase II
will be going north from Golfview Road to County Road. It is estimated to be a 2 year
project. Please be patient and have a clear vision of how beautiful our town will look
once the project is complete.
Additional Improvements
The Civic Association and the Town Commission have worked together to give the Town of Gulf
Stream a much needed face lift. New street signs have been installed and new street lights to match
will be added. Please note that a "sample" light is up next to the Police station for your viewing.
The Civic Association has also donated a large screen television for presentations in the Town
meetings. This will allow the public to have a view of all site plan reviews, landscape designs and
any future land development in the Town meetings. All residents are encouraged to come and
participate in the Town meetings.
Police Reminder
The Police Department would like to remind all residents to remove valuables from cars and lock the
doors. We have had several incidents of unlocked cars being entered and contents being strewn
around the interior.

Flood Insurance
Everyone has some risk of flooding no matter where your property is located. Did you know that
there is a 26% chance of experiencing a flood during the life of a 30 -year mortgage or that your
standard homeowner insurance policy does not cover flood losses? It is important to protect your
home or business from flood damage by purchasing flood insurance. Flood Insurance is relatively
inexpensive compared to the cost of possible repairs.
The Town of Gulf Stream participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers this program. NFIP offers reasonably priced
flood insurance in communities that comply with minimum standards for floodplain management.
The NFIP's Community Rating System (CRS) recognizes community efforts beyond those minimum
standards by reducing flood insurance premiums to residents of that community. The CRS assigns
credit points based on additional flood protection activities that communities provide to help save
lives and property in the event of a flood. Gulf Stream currently has a rating of 7, which means that
Town residents owning property located in a special flood hazard area can save 15% on their flood
insurance.
Contact your insurance carrier to obtain more information on protecting your property with flood
insurance. NOTE: It takes 30 days for a flood insurance policy to go into effect.
For more information on flood insurance costs and coverage, go to www.fema.gov/national-flood-
insurance-program.
Gulf Stream has grown with our newly annexed area, as well as all the new construction and
renovations. Our property values are staying steady and some even rising. The Town of Gulf Stream
continues to be a very special place to live.
On Behalf of the Town Commission and Staff,
Mayor Joan K. Orthwein.
