Fall 2011 Newsletter Page 2 POLICE DEPARTMENT SEASON REMINDER A message from the Town's Police Chief, Garrett Ward: "As the winter season commences, we would like to remind you to utilize your home alarm systems and to lock your cars and keep them free of valuables. Property crimes increase during this time of the year." PUBLIC NOTICE TO WATER SYSTEM CUSTOMERS As a preventive measure to ensure that drinking water remains safe and compliant with all regulatory water quality requirements, the City of Delray, Gulf Stream's water provider, is preparing for its water distribution line enhanced disinfection activity which will begin on Monday November 5, 2012 and continue through November 19, 2012. The specific maintenance activity will include utilizing free chlorine as the primary disinfectant. During this preventive maintenance activity, water customers may notice an increased chlorine odor and taste in their tap water. This is a normal occurrence and will cause no adverse health effects. During this time period, customers with special needs should be aware of potential problems with their equipment and systems and owners of tropical fish aquariums and holding tanks for fish and shellfish should be aware that this temporary change in our disinfection process may be toxic to aquatic life if not properly addressed. Any such side effects will diminish when the City of Delray reverts to the normal disinfection method on November 19, 2012. Users are encouraged to contact an appropriate professional for guidance on how to use their equipment during this period. The Town will also flush fire hydrants during this period as part of the enhanced disinfection procedure. If you notice such flushing activities in your immediate area, please refrain from using laundry machines until activities have ceased. Please be assured that this is a routine preventive maintenance procedure that will continue on a quarterly basis. For additional information, please contact Town Hall at (561) 276-5116.
