HomeMy Public PortalAbout20070927 budget work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 1 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) CALL TO ORDER The Council Budget Committee Work Session meeting of September 27, 2007, was convened at 5:30 P.M. by Finance Chairman, Councilman Kenneth Ferguson. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Brown, Crane, Ferguson, Harvey, Klindt, Koon, Layton, Medin, Penfold, and Smith Absent: None A quorum was present. DISCUSSION Councilman Ferguson turned the floor over to City Administrator Steve Rasmussen who introduced Finance Director Steve Schlueter. Parking Lot Issues Mr. Schlueter made what he termed a "Straw Man" presentation. Following the presentation, a motion was made by Councilman Kevin Brown, seconded by Councilman Dan Klindt, to add an item to the Parking Lot to reduce the capital improvements projected Parks Tax revenues by $190,000 and place it in Public Safety, specifically for the fire apparatus, seconded by Councilman Dan Klindt. The motion was defeated with all but Councilman Brown voting "Nay." Councilman Dan Klindt moved to cap the restaurant inspection fees at $500. The motion died for lack of a second. Councilman Mike Harvey recommended lowering the merit increase from 1°/0 to ' /2% and then lower the food inspection fees to a cap of $550, seconded by Councilman Kevin Brown. Following discussion, Councilman Harvey moved to amend his motion to adjust the cap up 1/2% by $63,000 absorbed by the merit increase, seconded by Councilman Dan Klindt. Recess A short dinner break was taken at 6:00 P.M. Reconvened COUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 2 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) After the break, figures were discussed regarding the merit increase and restaurant inspection fees. Councilman Mike Harvey withdrew all motions on the floor, and Councilman Dan Klindt withdrew his seconds to those motions. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Ron Medin, and approved unanimously at 7:40 P.M.
