HomeMy Public PortalAbout20071004 budget work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION OCTOBER 4, 2007 1 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) CALL TO ORDER The Council Budget Committee Work Session meeting of October 4, 2007, was convened at 5:35 P.M. by Finance Chairman, Councilman Kenneth Ferguson. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Brown, Crane, Ferguson, Harvey, Koon, Layton, Medin, Penfold, and Smith Absent: Klindt A quorum was present. DISCUSSION Councilman Ferguson turned the floor over to City Administrator Steve Rasmussen who made opening remarks. He then explained the city's fuel costs. Balance the budget A motion was made by Councilman Ron Medin to cap restaurant inspection fees at $500, seconded by Councilman Mike Harvey. Councilwoman Jane A. Smith moved to amend the motion to include organizations at the same rate as everyone else which the city does not currently charge fees, such as schools, seconded by Councilwoman Cindy Layton. The motion to amend was then defeated with Councilwoman Jane A. Smith being the only "Aye" vote. The original motion was then defeated with the "Aye" votes being Koon, Layton, and Smith and all others "Nay." Councilwoman Jane A. Smith stated she wished the Finance Committee to discuss the issue of car allowances currently being given to City Administrator Steve Rasmussen, Community Development Director Pat Sullivan, and Parks & Recreation Director Bill Lockwood. She specifically wanted the Committee to look at the cost of allowing mileage vs. giving a car allowance. At the conclusion of discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Kevin Brown, seconded by Councilman Mike Harvey, to recommend the budget to the Council after it has been refined to include the most recent changes made by the Council Budget Committee. The motion was approved with Councilman Brian Crane voting "Nay." ADJOURNMENT COUNCIL WORK SESSION OCTOBER 4, 2007 2 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) A motion was made by Councilman Mike Harvey to adjourn, seconded by Councilwoman Cindy Layton, and approved unanimously at 6:30 P.M.
