A1A LANDSCAPING PLANS The program to enhance existing landscaping along AIA within the Town limits is progressing very nicely. In February, the Town Commission approved the landscape architect's design for submittal to the Department of Transportation and for solicitation of bids. If you live along A1A and have not seen the plans, we encourage you to call Town Hall. Our goal is to create a project which has the full support of Town residents, making your thoughts and ideas an important part of the process. All planting will occur within the right-of-way and we hope to begin installation after the end of the Season. ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW & PLANNING BOARD Doug Homberger has been appointed as a new member of the Architectural Review and Planning Board and Mert Anderson was moved from an alternate to a regular position on the Board. The "ARPS" is responsible for reviewing the design aspects of new residences and proposed additions within the Town Limits. Congratulations to these qualified residents willing to serve our community. SPEED 2O LIMIT MPH The Town Commission is establishing a speed limit of 20 MPH on narrow roads in the central part of Town, to ensure the safety of our residents. Please drive carefully and watch for children, golf carts, bicycles and pedestrians. TOWN COMMISSION At the January 9, 1998, Commission Meeting Fred "Fritz" B. Devitt III, who has been an important member of the Architectural Review and Planning Board, was elected by unanimous vote of the Town Commission to fill the late Commissioner Cross's position. Commissioner Cross, who honorably served on the Commission for more than 10 years, will be greatly missed by Town Residents. POLICE CHIEF'S SAFETY TIPS Gypsies have been sighted in and around Gulf Stream as recently as February. Their specialty is to approach homeowners offering repairs such as painting, roofing, and driveway maintenance sealing with blacktop. They are very persuasive in their "pitch" and even have a pleasant aura in their approach to the intended victim. BEWARE... Ask to see their Gulf Stream registration papers which businesses are required to have by Town Ordinance. And, as they are leaving your immediate area, PLEASE call the police at 243-7800 ASAP to investigate their presence in Town. By doing this you will be helping your neighbors and at the same time projecting an image to the gypsy community that Gulf Stream is not an easy target. Burglar Alarms: The experience of all barrier island police departments is this: In 80% of the burglaries investigated, the residence was equipped with an alarm system but the resident did not activate (arm) the system. Remember, the clearance rate and recovery of property is only 11 % nationally for burglary. -Chief Robert Schultz Page 2 CURRENTS NOTICE OF PUBLIC DISCLOSURE TOWN OF GULF STREAM Pursuant to Section 403.7049, Florida State Statutes and Rule 17-1708, Florida Administrative Code, the Town of Gulf Stream, Palm Beach County, Florida discloses the following full costs of Solid Waste Management for residential and non-residential users during the 1996-97 fiscal year. Your assistance in addressing these concerns is appreciated. • White Tile roofs require regular cleaning to help eliminate mildew discoloration. • Garage doors should be kept closed, particularly if they face the street. • It is not necessary to place garbage by the curb; the Town has made special arrangements for collection at your back door or beside the garage. Trucks, especially lawn maintenance vehicles, have made a mess of many front yards. Please ask your service people who drive trucks to take care in where they park, preferably in a paved area off the road (e.g., driveway). If you see a truck damaging sod, please call Town Hall. If you know of any Australian Pine Tree Saplings available please call Town Hall. *MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
