HomeMy Public PortalAboutNovember 18, 1997TOWN OF GULF STREAM AlA LANDSCAPING SURVEY RESULTS November 18,1997 Dear Property Owner: Thank you for taking the time to answer our August survey regarding landscaping for State Road AlA. We are delighted with the response rate and the positive comments received. All of the landscaped properties that responded currently maintain the right of way area in front of their lot. 75% are willing to continue this maintenance and another 20% said they were likely to be willing to maintain the area once they were away e of what the new landscaping would involve. 60% would be willing to have their irrigation system modified by a reputable irrigation company. Over 20% would be likely to agree to have modifications made once they were informed how extensive the work would be. One property owner preferred to do the work himself. We had many comments regarding features of the existing landscape. There were requests to maintain the current canopy effect of the trees and to maintain privacy on individual lots, along with six specific requests to maintain and rejuvenate the Australian Pine Canopy. Two property owners had recently completed landscaping and did not want new landscape to compromise the recent work. Several comments dealt with specific specimen trees that currently accent entries or soften sides of buildings. Suggestions for the new design include methods to discourage cars from damaging the grass in the right of way by planting trees closer to the pavement or installing decorative gravel areas. There was a request to add landscaping by the new school gym. Two respondents requested power line burial. One questioned the plethora of bus stop signs that have been recently installed. One person wondered if a bike path would be considered. Planting recommendations include a request for foliage color variation and consideration of salt tolerant plants. Thank you again. Your suggestions have been very helpful and we will incorporate them to the greatest extent possible. We are looking forward to seeing you at the public presentation on December 4,1997 at 5:00 P.M.
