Dear Place Au Soleil Resident:
POLICE DEPARTMENT
March 1993
ROBERT F. SCHULTZ
CHIEF OF POLICE
I am writing to inform you of recent criminal activities that appear to be a continuing problem in
the Place Au Soleil area. The nine incidents listed below all have occurred since the first of this year:

In more than half of these incidents, the victim's property was not secured (locked up) thus,
unintentionally, providing an opportunity for a crime to be committed. Opportunity is one of two elements
necessary for a crime to be committed; intent is the other. While we can not do much about unlawful
intentions, we can reduce opportunities by locking doors and windows.
In addition to securing your property, I URGE YOU TO IMMEDIATELY REPORT ANY
SUSPICIOUS PERSONS, NOISES OR INCIDENTS TO THE GULF STREAM POLICE DEPARTMENT AT
243-7800. Reporting incidents hours later handicaps our efforts at apprehension. You hold the key to
reducing criminal activity by serving as law enforcement's eyes and ears.
These efforts by you will help bolster those of the Police Department. To date, our efforts include:
parking a squad car at the gate; foot patrol sweeps through the adjacent woods; additional squad patrols
for increased visibility; and undercover patrols and stationary surveillance.
In 1991, the nationwide solution rate for home burglaries was only 13%. That means 87% of the
time the bad guy gets away. Remember, you control the opportunity. Please help us help you reduce
the number of these incidents and cut that 87% in half.
Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions about how to make your home more
secure, please do not hesitate to contact me at the number printed below.
