HomeMy Public PortalAboutMarch 4, 1992TOWN OF GULF STREAM PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA March 4, 1992 Dear Resident: Telephone (407) 276-5116 Fax (407) 737-0166 Town Manager E. SCOTT HARRINGTON Town Clerk RITA L. TAYLOR I am very happy to report that nearly all of the Australian pine trees on our beautiful North Ocean Boulevard (Al A) will be spared from the axes of the state Department of Transportation (DOT). A special thanks to Jean Breazeale, Eric Hvide, and Representative Foley and his staff for their tireless efforts in bringing about this result. Through their concerned efforts and those of the Citizens Committee and Town officials, the DOT has agreed to remove only those trees that are currently dead or in an advanced state of decay and to use this as the only criteria for any future tree removals. Town staff, DOT staff and members of the Citizens Committee have met and agreed that only 17 trees presently meet this criteria, and removal of only these trees is expected to begin within the next few weeks. In the future, all other tree removals also will be agreed upon first by Town staff and the Citizens Committee. In addition to the above, the DOT will trim some dead and low branches which may be augmented with additional pruning to increase the health and longevity of the trees. Further, the DOT also agreed to search for a solution, other than removing trees, to address the visibility problem at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Golfview Drive. Members of the Citizens Committee, Town staff and the DOT will continue working on these programs over the next several weeks to identify costs and funding sources. Finally, once we receive accurate right-of-way maps from the DOT, the Town Commission and staff will begin work on a program to develop a landscape design for all of Ocean Boulevard in the Town. This program will work to incorporate and enhance the existing Australian pine canopy while also addressing those areas that currently have little or no landscaping. Your input into this design is encouraged and we will notify you of when the program is scheduled to begin. As an additional note, enclosed is a flyer from the Save Our Local Environment committee urging you to VOTE NO regarding the March 10 referendum issue which, if approved, would give the County Commission all planning authority for Gulf Stream and all other cities in the County. I am not permitted to express an opinion on this issue on Town stationary, but I urge you to seriously consider this matter and vote for what you believe is in the best interest of our community, and that should be obvious. Again, I want to express my thanks on behalf of the Commission to the members of the community for their valuable assistance in helping preserve the character of our Town. Sincerely, Jl-'-' William F. Koch, Jr., Mayor 100 SEA ROAD, GULF STREAM, FLORIDA 33483 COMMISSIONERS WILLIAM F. KOCH, JR., Mayor ALAN I. ARMOUR, Vice Mayor JAMES E. CROSS KATHLEEN S.
