HomeMy Public PortalAboutMay 15, 1992TOWN OF GULF STREAM PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA COMMISSIONERS WILLIAM F. KOCH, JR., Mayor ALAN I. ARMOUR, Vice Mayor JAMES E. CROSS KATHLEEN S. WALLACE LAWRENCE E. STAHL Dear Beachfront Property Owner: May 15, 1992 Telephone (407)276-5116 Fax (407) 737-0166 Town Manager E. SCOTT HARRINGTON Town Clerk RITA L. TAYLOR The Town Commission has requested that I write to you to inform you of three important issues that directly affect properties on the beach - the proposed reestablishment of the Coastal Construction Control Line, sea turtle season and loose animals. Regarding the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL), you may have already been notified by the Florida Department of Natural Resources (DNR) of the new line and upcoming public hearings. Aerial photographs showing the proposed CCCL are available for your review at the Gulf Stream Town Hall. If you would like to comment on the proposed line or the accompanying data and analysis prepared by the DNR, you can appear at any of the following DNR public hearings: May 26, 1992 - 7:00 P.M. Town of Jupiter Activity Building 210 Military Trail Jupiter, Florida May 27, 1992 - 7:00 P.M, Town of Palm Beach Town Hall Council Chambers 360 South County Road Palm Beach, Florida May 28, 1992 - 7:00 P.M. City of Boca Raton City Hall Council Chambers 201 W. Palmetto Park Road Boca Raton, Florida As you may be aware, April 1 through October 31 of each year is "sea turtle season". During this time, sea turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs. Because the turtles are an endangered species, federal, state, county and local laws have been established to protect the turtles and their nests. As a result, all activities on the beach should be carefully planned to insure the nests are not disturbed and that all laws are followed. This includes limiting lighting on the beach. A separate but related issue to sea turtle season is loose animals, dogs in particular, on the beach. Unleashed animals are prohibited on the beach, and all public areas, at all times of the year in the Town of Gulf Stream. However, it is critical that no animals be permitted to run free on the beach during turtle season as they tend to be attracted to, and are likely to destroy, the nests. Such destruction, even if by accident, must be reported to the state and severe fines are likely to result. Please leash all animals and report any that are not to the Gulf Stream Police Department at 243-7800 (Delray Beach Dispatch). Thank you for your attention to these important matters. If you have any questions regarding these issues or any others affecting the beach, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, / corington Town Manager 100 SEA ROAD, GULF STREAM, FLORIDA 33483
