A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR THE REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE
PROJECT SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS GRANT AND TO
EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS RELATIVE TO THIS GRANT

,~ WHEREAS, The City of Lynwood is committed to increasing community safety
~ and violence prevention, and
- WHEREAS, The United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice
Assistance (BJA) is currently soliciting proposals for the Reducing Community Gun
Violence Pr'oject Safe Neighborhoods Grant; and
WHEREAS, Units of state and local governments are eligible to submit concept
papers for this grant for a maximum award amount of $250,000 over a twenty-four
month grant period, and ,
WHEREAS, The City of Lynwood is preparing a proposal to apply for grant
funding to hire an additional Sheriff's Deputy to coordinate with City staff and several
othec community partners to perform duties in the areas of Community
Outreach/Education, Diversion Programs/Prevention and Enforcement/Adjudication
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby find,
proclaim, order and resolve as follows
Section 1. The City Manager or his designee is authorized to carry out any
necessary transactions as so ordered by this resolution
~ Section 2. The City Manager may submit to a proposal to BJA for the Project
~ Safe Neighborhoods Grant.
Section 3. If the proposal is selected for approval, the City is hereby
authorized to enter into a grant agreement with BJA and any other documents necessary
for the purposes set forth in the proposal and approved by BJA.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 17th day of September 2002.
