Some of our people are confused between garbage, trash and recycling.
With all the changes that have taken place in the last several months
it is understandable how one can get pick up days, types of materials
and types of containers -confused.
Garbage is food waste and anything associated with it. Grease, coffee
grounds etc.
Trash is any wood or vegetable matter that results from normal yard
and landscaping maintenance and includes tree and shrub trimmings,
grass clippings, palm fronds and similar matters. It also includes
appliances, carpeting, furniture and similar debris but does not
include any form of matter or debris resulting from land clearing, land
development, building demolition or home improvement.
Recyclable materials are glass, plastic, aluminum and paper.
All of our garbage, trash and recyclable materials are hauled away by
County Sanitation. This is the company that we have under contract
to take away these items. You are paying for back door pick up and
as such you are not required to place any items at the curb. The
only requirement is that the truck drivers must be able to get their
trucks to the area where the items are located.
Garbage is picked up on Tuesdays and Saturdays east of the inter-
coastal and on Mondays and Thursdays in Place Au Soleil.
Trash is picked up on and "on call" basis. If you call for a trash
pick up, County Sanitation will make the pick up either the day that
you call or the next day. Call 278-1717.
Recyclable materials are picked up on Saturdays east of the intercoastal
and on Thursdays in Place Au Soleil. Your plastic, glass, and aluminum
is to be placed in the yellow and black container that was provided
for your use. Paper, including newspapers are either bundled and tied
with string and placed next to the container or put into paper shopping
bags and placed next to the container.
Any questions or comments regarding garbage, trash or recyclable mater-
ials should be directed to County Sanitation at 278-1717. Please keep
'Letter from Mayor Koch dated October 9, 1990 Page Two
this number, as well as, other important numbers close to your telephone.
The Gulf Stream Police Department patrols the town 24 hours a day,
seven days a week. However, we do not have a Dispatcher, Police Officer,
or Secretary, inside the Police Station 24 hours per day. If we were
to go to our own Dispatch Service the salaries and related expenses
would be over $125,000 per year. This does not include the cost of
initial installation which would be equally expensive. In order to
avoid this expense we have contracted with the Delray Beach Police
Department to dispatch our Police Officers. If you have an emergency
of any kind please dial 911. If you wish to speak to a Police Officer,
or, advise the police of a non emergency situation, dial 243-7800. A
Delray Beach Police Dispatcher will be taking your call. They in turn
will send a Gulf Stream Officer to whatever location is necessary,or
they will tell the officer to call you. Whatever is your pleasure.
During week days (from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday - Friday except
holidays) please call 278-8611. If there is an officer in the station
they will answer your call. If there is not an officer in the station
someone in Town Hall will take your call and relay your message to
an officer. If you stop at the Police Station and no one is there
please do not think that no one is working. It only means that they
are on patrol. And please remember, in any Emergency, Police, Fire,
Medical, etc. dial 911. For non emergency police calls, 24 hours per
day call 243-7800.
If you have questions regarding a water problem,(broken lines, a lack
of water etc.) call the Harvel Company at 276-5557.
Please feel free to call Town Hall at 276-5116 at any time. After 4:00
P.M. we have an answering device that will record any message that you
may want to leave. We will return your call the following business day.
As you know, we have been mandated to reduce the amount of potable
water that we use. It must be reduced by 508 over the next several years.
The Town Commission is considering an ordinance that would regulate the
days and hours that watering is to be done. A copy of the Proposed
Ordinance was sent to the various Home Owner's Groups and the Civic
Association. Thus far it seems to have been well received.
We are asking that all residents adhere to the following regulations
when watering:
Homes with odd numbered addresses may water from 4:00 A.M. to
8:00 A.M. on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Homes with even
numbered addresses, as well as, buildings with no numbers and
locations with multiple numbers may water from 4:00 A.M. to
8:00 A.M. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. No watering is
permitted on Fridays.
As we previously stated, our staff at Town Hall will be delighted to
Many t' e. ase keep the enclosed card handy.
