DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS
Appointments. City Administrator Steve Rasmussen stated he will begin introducing all
new Fire Department hirees at City Council meetings so that the Council can meet them as
well as the Police Department hirees. He explained that Council approval is not required for
hiring Fire Department personnel as it is in the case of the Police Department, but that he
felt at least introducing them to the Council would make the process be a bit more even.
The first such introduction will occur at next Monday night's meeting (December 3).
Consent Agenda. Councilman Jim Penfold mentioned an error in the November 19 Regular
Council Meeting minutes. He stated that the presentation from the gallery made by Mr. Joe
Wilson should state that the vandalism mentioned by Mr. Wilson occurred "in the vicinity of
the Missouri River access" rather than "to the dog park." Request was so noted by City Clerk
Phyllis Powell who indicated she would make said correction.
2007- 121(emergency preparedness). Several questions were asked. Following discussion,
Councilman Jim Penfold stated he thinks North Jefferson City, which is in Callaway County,
also needs to be included in any agreement.
2007 -123 (nuisances). Councilman Jim Penfold stated he may introduce an amendment to
one of the sections by the deletion of the word "dense" as it is used to define the word
"smoke ".
New Business. Councilman Jim Penfold made comments regarding the Environmental
Quality Commission meeting held on November 29 regarding trees in front of Brown Printing
Company. Discussion was held regarding this issue.
