HomeMy Public PortalAbout20071214 BB worksessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION DECEMBER 14, 2007 1 CALL TO ORDER The December 14, 2007, "Brown Bag" Work Session was convened at 11:30 A.M. by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Brown, Crane, Ferguson, Harvey, Koon, Layton, Medin, Penfold, and Smith Absent: Klindt A quorum was present. DISCUSSION OF AMEREN UE FACILITIES MOVE Mayor John Landwehr asked City Administrator Steve Rasmussen to make a presentation regarding the AmerenUE facilities move issue. Questions were asked about funding and were answered by staff. The issue of parking spaces at the location was also discussed. Councilman Jim Penfold asked that staff find out from the state how much leeway the city would have on capping the lot. DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS Riverboat Gambling Public Forum and Bill 2007 -121 Discussion was held regarding scheduling a public forum on this issue for Tuesday, December 18. Following discussion, staff was directed to proceed with posting the meeting and notifying the media and public that 6:00 P.M. on December 18 will be the date and time for the meeting. Mayor John Landwehr that he plans to schedule a second forum to be held very early in January and asked the Council to check their calendars for possible dates. He asked Councilman Kevin Brown to place Bill 2007 -121 on the Informal Calendar until these meetings can be held. Councilman Brown agreed he would be more than willing to place it on the Informal Calendar on Monday night. 2007 -126 (Adrian's Island Access study) Mayor John Landwehr asked Parks & Recreation Director Bill Lockwood to email any COUNCIL WORK SESSION DECEMBER 14, 2007 2 information he can get to the Council on this issue before Monday night's meeting. Mayor John Landwehr left the meeting at this point (12:30) and turned the Chair over to President Pro Tempore Kevin Brown. City Administrator Steve Rasmussen stated the staff had a presentation to update the Council on the "Ice Fights" during last week's ice storms. Presentations were given by Fire Chief Bob Rennick, Police Captain Bob Cynova, Community Development Director Pat Sullivan, and Parks & Recreation Director Bill Lockwood. The Council commended staff on their hard work. In response to questions about how to help people who cannot afford to hire someone to clean up their storm debris, Councilman Kevin Brown gave out the phone number for the local Red Cross office which can put citizens in touch with a group of volunteers from churches who are helping those folks who cannot afford to pay. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 1:10 P.M.
