HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080104 BB work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 4, 2008 1 CALL TO ORDER The January 4, 2008, "Brown Bag" Work Session was convened at 12:00 P.M. by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Brown, Crane, Harvey, Koon, Layton, Medin, and Penfold Absent: Ferguson, Klindt, and Smith A quorum was present. DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS Councilman Brian Crane stated he wished to add an item to the agenda under "Miscellaneous Agenda Items" entitled: "Motion to Postpone Bill 2007 -125 Indefinitely." Discussion was held regarding how this would work in conjunction with the bill which is currently on the Informal Calendar. City Administrator Steve Rasmussen announced that a Work Session will be held Monday, January 14 and the topics will include an update from the Chamber of Commerce, Fire Apparatus. Mayor John Landwehr also asked if staff could be prepared to provide an update of the ice storm debris cleanup situation as well. 2007 -146 and 2007 -147 (contracts for debris cleanup and monitoring) — City Administrator Steve Rasmussen reported that bids have now been opened and gave a status report on the various options available to the city depending upon how much of the debris has already been disposed of throughout the city. He explained that if enough of the debris has already been disposed of, a contract may not even been needed, and that the city may qualify for "pilot program" reimbursement of up to $500,000 instead. He stated has prepared a draft press release announcing the city's intention of the curbside pickup program it will choose, but that he would ask the City Council for a motion and vote on Monday night to officially authorize the press release since doing so would commit the City to curbside pickup in some manner.
