HomeMy Public PortalAbout2003.050 (03-18-03)RESOLUTION N0. 2003.050 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD RECOMMENDING TO THE GOVERNOR AND STATE LEGISLATURE THAT EVERY EFFORT BE MADE DURING THE CURRENT STATE OF CALIFORNIA BUDGET DEVELOPMENT PROCESS TO PROVIDE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOTH EXISTING AS WELL AS INCREASED CHILD CARE PROGRAM AVAILABILITY ON THE LOCAL LEVEL WHEREAS; The City of Lynwood is a community encompassing a total of 4.3 square miles; and ~ WHEREAS, The community currently has ten (10) public elementary schools; and WHEREAS, The current total estimated student enrollment in the Lynwood Unified ~ ~ School District including students within the kindergarten through sixth grade is 11,262, , and; ~ WHEREAS; There are currently only three (3) child care centers on public elementary school sites; and WHEREAS, The three (3) sites include Mark Twain, Lindbergh and Will Rogers elementary schools; and WHEREAS, The City is in need of expanding the chiid care opportunities available in the community; and WHEREAS, if the level of funding available in the State of ~California budget for child care services is reduced we would not be able to expand the number of child care centers, in addition we would likely lose one (1) or more existing facilities; and WHEREAS, The City Council understands the gravity of the shortage of available child care facilities as well as the funding necessary to offer the programs to the citizens of the City of Lynwood at affordable costs; and WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Lynwood strongly expresses its support to expand community childcare centers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby find, determine, order and resolve as follows: Section 1. This resolution is to be documented evidence of the Honorable Mayor and City Council's vigorous support of Child Care funding and programs. Section 2. This resolution is to be provided immediately to the Honorable Governor Gray Davis. ~ Section 3. This resolution is to be provided immediately to the Honorable Senator Edward Vincent. Section 4. This resolution is to be provided immediately to the Honorable State Assemblyman Marco Antonio Firebaugh. Section 5.
