A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING THE
MONTH OF OCTOBER 2009 AS "STOP THE VIOLENCE"
MONTH WITHIN THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA AND
ENCOURAGING PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE MIAMI
GARDENS / OPA-LOCKA YOUTH PREVENTION
COALTION AND OTHER COMMUNITY BASED
ORGANIZATIONS
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka ("City Commission") is
committed to supporting efforts to combat crime and violence within the City of Opa-locka("City")
and
WHEREAS,the City Commission deems it important to encourage and support events and
activities that help to raise awareness about anti-crime initiatives; and
WHEREAS,Stop the Violence month provides an opportunity to recognize the individuals,
programs and organizations that are making a difference in our communities; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to partner with the Miami Gardens/Opa-locka
Youth Violence Prevention Initiative and other community based organizations in recognizing Stop
the Violence Month; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to recognize Stop the
Violence Month within the City of Opa-locka.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby recognizes the month

of October 2009 as Stop the Violence Month within the City of Opa-locka and further encourages the
City to take advantage of partnership opportunities with the Miami-Gardens / Youth Prevention
Coalition and other community based organizations by engaging weekly planning activities during
the month of October that will help to raise awareness about anti-crime initiatives within the City
and surrounding communities.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
