HomeMy Public PortalAbout2003.244 (12-16-03)RESOLUTION NO. 2003.244 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF L YNWOOD AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT/ PUBLIC SAFETY SUBSTATION WHEREAS, the.reduction of crime contmues to be a goal of the City; and ~" WHEREAS, the need exists to demonstrate the City's ongomg concern and commitment i to this goal by takrng the necessary steps required to make progress; and ~ WHEREAS, consistent wrth the goal of crime reduction is the need to take certam proactive measures that seek to mform the public and assist rt m the plannmg for prevention of crime; and WHEREAS, the mcreased presence and visibility of public safety and law enforcement serves as an effective deterrent-to crime; and ~ WHEREAS, the development of a Public Safety/Law Enforcement substation would facilitate the goal of crime reduction in the City of Lynwood, and WHEREAS, the development of a Public Safety/ Law Enforcement substation on Atlantic Avenue would also be consistent with economic and physical revitalization of efforts the City is currently pursuing; and WHEREAS, the development of a Public Safety/ Law Enforcement substation on Atlantic Avenue would serve as a model and save time m the plannmg and development of future substations the City may want to develop in other areas, mcludmg Long Beach Boulevard. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYN-WOOD, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City Council hereby recogmzes the need to implement new strategies ~ for reducmg crime in the City and that one such strategy is the development of Law ~ Enforcement/Public Safety substations m targeted areas. t , ~ Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby directed to develop a plan for the implementation of a Public Safety/Law Enforcement substation to be located on Atlantic Avenue ~ in the City of Lynwood. Section 3. That the City Manager is hereby directed to prepare a preliminary report concerning said plan and implementation for presentation and consideration at the first Regular Meeting of the Lynwood City Council in January 2004 Section 4.
