HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-7442 Abrui LLC for Demolition of 2749 NW 131 Street Sponsored by: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 0 9-7 4 4 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AND EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH ABURI LLC, FOR DEMOLITION OF UNSAFE STRUCTURES LOCATED AT 2749 NW 131 STREET AT A COST OF TWENTY SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($27,000.00), IN A CONTRACT FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY AND PAYABLE FROM ACCOUNT NO. 44-541822 WHEREAS, on December 12, 2007, the Miami-Dade County Unsafe Structures Board ruled that the structure located at 2749 NW 131 Street in the City of Opa-locka("City")was unsafe; and WHEREAS,the property owner was given one hundred and eighty(180)days by the Miami- Dade County Unsafe Structures Board to complete structural and building repairs in order to conform to the requirements of the South Florida Building Code; and WHEREAS, the property owner has not completed the required structural and building repairs; and WHEREAS, on December 7, 2008, the City advertised for the demolition of the unsafe structure; and WHEREAS, on December 12, 2008, the City received bids from companies interested in performing services related to the demolition of the unsafe structure; and WHEREAS,Aburi LLC,provided the lowest and most responsible bid for demolition of the unsafe structure; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is recommending that the City Commission authorize the City Manager to enter into and execute an agreement with Aburi LLC for the provision of demolition services to the City, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby authorizes the City Manager to enter into and execute an agreement with Aburi LLC, for demolition services related to the unsafe structure located at 2749 NW 131 Street within the City at a cost of Twenty Seven Thousand Dollars($27,000.00),in a contract form acceptable to the City Attorney and payable from Account No. 44-541822. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to take all necessary and expedient action to effectuate the intent of this resolution. Section 4. Finn , tT�`m City Manager DATE: Feb„..„ -%,--1,• �' RE: DEMOLITION OF UNSAFE STRUCTURE Request: APPROVAL OF ABURI LLC TO DEMOLISH BUILDING LOCATED AT 2749 NW 131 STREET FOR THE AMOUNT OF $27,000.00 DUE TO PROPERTY BEING ECLARED UNSAFE. Description: On December 12, 2007, the Miami Dade County Unsafe Structures Board ruled that 2749 NW 131 Street was un-safe. The property owner was given one hundred eighty (180) days to complete structural and building repairs to conform to the requirements of the Florida Building Code. These repairs were not done and it is the City's right to demolish the property. On December 7, 2008, the City advertised for the demolition of the above properties. On December 12, 2008, the City received proposals from interested companies (see attached). It is determined that ABURI LLC is the lowest responsible bidder Financial Impact: This work was planned to be completed in FY 2008 and was not budgeted in the FY 2009 Budget. It will be provided for the in the upcoming budget amendment. We will subsequently lien the property for the amount paid for the demolition. The account number is 44-541822. Implementation Timeline: Once approved the building should be completely removed within 60 days. Legislative History: None. Recommendation(s): Staff recommends approval. Analysis: These structures are an eyesore to our community. Once removed, it will help eliminate trash and loitering at these buildings. This project will improve public health and safety.
