HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-7448 Safe Neighborhood Grant Sponsored by: City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 09-7448 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE ACTION OF THE CITY MANAGER IN EXPENDING AWARDED GRANT FUNDS FROM THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS BOND GRANT PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF THIRTY TWO THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY NINE DOLLARS AND EIGHTY FOUR CENTS ($32,379.84) FOR THE SHERBONDY PARK PAVILION PROJECT, PAYABLE FROM ACCOUNT NO. 72-572630 WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka("City Commission") passed and adopted Resolution 08-7239 accepting an award of grant funds from the Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program in the amount of One Hundred Sixty Three Thousand Dollars and no cents ($163,000.00), to be used for the construction of a recreational pavilion at Sherbondy Park; and WHEREAS, on October 8, 2008, the City Commission adopted Resolution 08-7374, authorizing the City Manager to expend grant funds from the Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program in the amount of One Hundred Twelve Thousand Eight Hundred Eighty Dollars and Sixteen Cents ($112,880.16), to be used for the construction of a recreational pavilion at Sherbondy Park; and WHEREAS, on January 14, 2009, the City Commission adopted Resolution 09-7408 ratifying the action of the City Manager in authorizing the expenditure of grant funds from the Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program in the amount of Seventeen Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Dollars ($17,740.00) for landscaping and irrigation improvements to the Sherbondy Park Pavilion Project; and Resolution No. 09-7448 WHEREAS, due to the December 31, 2008 deadline for the expenditure of grant funds from the Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program, the interim City Manager authorized the expenditure of the remaining awarded grant funds prior to the December 31, 2008 deadline, in the amount of Thirty Two Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy Nine Dollars and Eighty Four cents ($32,379.84) for the Sherbondy Park Pavilion Project; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting that the City Commission ratify action taken by the City Manager in expending the remaining grant funds Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program related to the Sherbondy Park Pavilion Project in the amount of Thirty Two Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy Nine Dollars and Eighty Four cents ($32,379.84); and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to ratify the action of the City Manager in authorizing the expenditure of the Miami-Dade Safe Neighborhood Program grant funds for the Sherbondy Park Pavilion Project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble are hereby incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby ratifies the action taken by the City Manager in expending grant funds from the Miami-Dade County Safe Neighborhoods Bond Grant Program in the amount of Thirty Two Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy Nine Dollars and Eighty Four cents ($32,379.84) for the Sherbondy Park Pavilion Project, payable from Account Number 72-572630. Analysis: The City of Opa-locka was awarded a grant from Miami Dade County Parks&Recreation in the amount of$163,000 to erect a pavilion at Sherbondy Park. These dollars were enough to, not only erect the pavilion,but also make additional improvements around the pavilion. Of the expenses in excess of the City Manager's authority, the City Commission has already approved the payment to Advanced Recreational Concepts and Hurricane Irrigation. We require approval of the other expenses over the City Manager's signing authority, specifically Rellim Martin LLC, Enterprise Electrical, and Actys Metal Art&Fence.
